Not sure what model Chamberlain I own but I bought it from Lowes last year thinking it was going to be ready to go with remote access out of the box. Turns out it was only MyQ 'ready' - has the MyQ symbol on the opener - and didn't include the gateway itself. So I waited until I saw the gateway for a reasonable price and eventually picked up this Liftmaster version after being pretty confident it would work. Set up was easy. Just plug the unit into a wired port on your home internet router or a small switch and so long as your router is set up for DHCP (gives out IP addresses automatically) then it will automatically register and sync up with Liftmaster. After that, just download the Liftmaster MyQ app (free) and set up a free account at the provided Liftmaster website. Once you do that, you just go to the app and setup the new device (opener) which just involved going to the opener and hitting the "Learn" button on it. It tells you on the app when the device has been successfully added. The app itself is a breeze to use. Very intuitive although the first time you use it you may not know that you need to just press on the garage door image to open or close it using the app. Tells you how long it has been open or closed even if you weren't in the app at the time it was last opened or closed. You can easily set up alerts to let you know if someone opens or closes it and the alerts can be filtered down to certain times of day or days of the week. So, for example, when my daughter comes home from school and lets herself in through the garage door I can get an alert that the door was opened. I can set the alert to only be Mon-Fri which is nice and I can toggle the alert on and off as needed without needing to set it all up again every time I want to enable it. Really a great product. Thanks** A: I am not sure. I will be happy to look at the paperwork that came with the unit and reply later, but suffice to say, my garage door opener and this unit are approximately 80-90 feet away. I would say it would be whatever distance your current remote garage door opener currently works. As I understand this unit, it works like a remote garage door opener (like the one in your car), but it is controlled through the internet so you can open/close the garage literally wherever you have an internet/smartphone connection - and it be within rage of what your remote works. Again, it must be connected to the internet, so if you have an extra port in your router to connect this unit, you are set! This unit is NOT wireless. I did not have enough ports in my router, so I connected it through my satellite box which is connected to the internet. **Q: Does all traffic get routed through the myq servers (ie does myq have control over the door and surveillance of the house)?** A: Goes through their server; what is worse is that you have no clue when the server goes down or gets hosed. You know nothing other than the app on the phone cannot connect to the server. Yeah, they could open/close your door but honestly, are you that important for anyone else to bother ? Me neither. But what really annoys me is that this thing has no debug mode other than blinking lights and the reset button... and when it is acting weird, you never know what is wrong. I figured I will give a try too as I forgot to close garage quite few time while going out only to pull my hair if closed the garage or not. It has been somewhat problem esp with HomeLink openers in my cars needs button to be held for few seconds to operate. This also happened few times even at home. No more worries. I was thinking of building my own control circuit along with some other automation( with rapberry Pi and USB controlled relays, limit/reed switches etc.) But I could not pass such a good deal on this. I got this one along with LiftMaster 888LM Security+ 2.0 MyQ wall control panel and Liftmaster 829LM Garage Door Monitor. I do have a LiftMaster 3800 little bit advanced garage door opener. But mine being older model it did not have MyQ control built into it. (Newer replacement versions do have that built-in option). So I had to buy wall control panel along with gateway. All it took is literally 15 minutes to install and configure and I am in business of opening closing from my phone. Now I have piece of mind about garage door and my wife can see the status inside the home upstairs if the garage door is opened or closed at a glance(With garage door monitor). One can use this Internet gateway with MyQ control panel with any garage door opener it seems. But I do miss some features of my previous control panel. It has nice backlit LCD showing temperature of garage, and time, I miss those feature when I work in garage on my car. Instructions suggested that adding two control panels in parallel may overload the circuit. All in all, I would say it a great value as under $50 we can have internet monitored and controlled garage opener. Application button layout, operation model could have been little better, but it is minor gripe.
