This is a fun book with easy to understand explanations and good CD pronunciations. It is giving me a great structure of language to my childhood memories. However, gave it only 4 stars because of one annoying feature--they introduce the kanji reading without any help to a beginner. I have mastered the hiragana and katakana alphabets, and they do explain them quite adequately, however, kanji, as any student of Japanese knows, takes many years to learn, especially for those of us who are not in a setting where it is naturally learned.
