I was actually pleasantly surprised. Yeah it was far fetched, completely over the top and a bit more coarse that the films had generally been up to that point, but the CGI was pleasingly not-terrible and the comedy-action with Burt & Son was pretty enjoyable. After the sci-fi channel cheapness of 3 and small scale story of 4 it was a nice change of pace.Then comes Tremors 6.This was a blind buy for me on faith, considering the last one was pretty decent, and that cover is amazing. Oh boy, that cover. Rarely before has boxart been so misleading. Let alone the freaking title. A COLD DAY IN HELL written clear as day on the front, with a giant graboid bursting out of the snow at our heroes. Well guess what? Apart from the ultimate bait and switch teaser that lasts all of 2 minutes up front, there's no snow. No blizzards, no real arctic action. There's barely anything here to justify it not taking place in Perfection Nevada, with the location looking shockingly similar at times.Tremors 5 was an adventure in new territory, sure they were in a desert environment again but the location actually played into the story in a good way and was properly mined for dramatic potential. Here in Tremors 6, the movie we should've gotten is over before the title appears. Seeing a graboid displacing snow as it chased after someone was a great image, but that one opening scene is the limit of this film's creativity. After that it honestly feels like they just recycled a bunch of story elements from the short-lived TV show over a decade ago.The acting is a mixed bag, it feels like Michael Gross is starting to get tired of the whole thing and the back and forth with his son is just not funny in this one. The filmmakers resort to just having the two constantly insult each other, using dialogue that's just plain awkward for the most part. There are a few genuine laughs to be had as Burt realizes the condition he's in, but many scenes lean more towards cringe-inducing than provoking laughter.Coming off the last film you'd expect at least the effects to be okay, but the budget must have been severely slashed between movies. You could probably never make an "ass blaster" look realistic, but the few shots of them here are almost as bad as their infamous debut. The graboids barely put in an appearance, and their one big "animatronic" is hardly very animated. Weirdly the only thing that's impressive is the gore, which is odd in itself since the amount of blood feels way too much for the tone this series has gone with so far.Overall, a very disappointing effort and an unfortunate end to the series, if this is to be the final entry.And at this point, maybe it should be. Better to go out with a damp squib than to keep firing blanks. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Underground God-Damn Monsters! *by S***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 16 May 2018* The Tremors films are not about big budgets, Oscar winning performances, or anything you may expect to see in your normal Hollywood release. These films are about tongue-in-cheek acting, monsters that look cheaply made, and must contain Burt Gummer. To that extent, this film is a success.I do agree with other reviewers, that this is probably a good contender for one of the worst in the series, but if you're enough of a fan that you've got to this film, you'll enjoy it nonetheless.Trailed as being set in the Arctic is slightly misleading; we're off to the Canadian arctic here, which as you'll find out, doesn't have a complete whitewash of a landscape. Filming this type of film is never going to have a budget big enough to go to the actual arctic, so a compromise is made.The film is set predominantly in a scientific research base, keeping for a very small set (similar in size to Perfection), so there's plenty of Graboid and Ass-Blaster action to entertain as they tear up the outbuildings looking for prey.The film does have plenty of scenes that any non-fan (Tremorite?) would cringe at; with some awful dialogue and acting. Personally, I don't care.
