Having just finished "Extinction Edge", I must disagree. I found that I HAD to put this book down because I needed a break! Not from bad writing or terrible characters, as is often the case. Rather, I needed to put the book down purely to recover myself; I needed time to draw breath and relax my tension.This is an (almost unbearably) gripping second book in this trilogy. I refuse to give any spoilers so will let others discover the plot when they buy the book for themselves, which I would heartily recommend. However, I will say that it is well written - more unusual than you'd expect with this genre! The characters are both complex and believable and I found myself identifying with quite a few of them. The scenes in which Beckham and Horn are away from Plum Island are dreadful in their suspense - "will they return?". "Will Horn be reunited with his girls?". I wanted to shout at them as they raced down the stairs trying to get to Steam Beast in advance of the advancing hordes. And I wanted to engage in dialogue with Kate in an effort to find a solution. "Come on, Kate, surely there is SOMETHING you can do? What about the light sensitivity? Can't we exploit that?". All utterly ridiculous responses for a grown woman but totally understandable when you find yourself in the grip of this book.All I can say in conclusion to any prospective purchasers in that this is a book well worth reading. And, in conclusion to the author, I would say, please don't do anything else other than write the next instalment. I'm not sure I can wait until the summer to find out what happens! So... don't sleep, don't stop for food or refreshment breaks and definitely don't do anything that takes you away from your writing - Kate, Beckham, Horn and I are desperate to find out what happens! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars simply brilliant *by M***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 December 2017* Book 2 of the so far awesome Extinction Cycle series, and Nicholas Sansbury Smith throws you right back into the thick of the action with Reed Beckham and Team Ghost. The scary thing is you can easily imagine the US (or Russia or Korean) military trying to develop such a virus, the action is relentless and frighteningly real, and not everyone makes it to the end (one thing I like about this author is that none of the characters are really safe). The team find a safe haven, but is it really safe? Do they find their families alive? Well to find out you’ll just have to read it to find out, you won’t regret it!I really wish Amazon (or Netflix) would do a tv series of these books, they’d make awesome watching! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Still going good *by J***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 May 2015* I have really enjoyed the second instalment of the Extinction series.
