The Birds of Ireland: A Field Guide Paperback – March 4, 2014

Bought this as an ebook after finding myself in Ireland with no bird book. Good for answering the 'what is that?' questions whilst sightseeing. Great little guide.The excellent illustrations show the plumage variations, and point out the important characteristics to help in identifying the bird. There is a 'scarce and rare' section at the end of each species section.I will probably buy this in book form when I go back.

Nice guide. I went on a "non-birding" vacation to Ireland but since I'm an avid birder, I knew I needed to bring something. This book was quite helpful as every bird in the guide has many, many photos of the bird - male, female, good color, lousy color. Without any other birders around on my trip, this was extremely helpful to me, a complete novice in Ireland birds to figure out exactly what I was seeing as rarely is the bird you are looking at a perfect male with perfect coloring in perfect light conditions. Only draw back was no maps. Even the simplist map would have been super helpful to me. As would have measurements in both cm and inches.

Good comprehensive summary of country’s birds.If you are interested in summer/winter maps and migratory information, this is not that sort of book.Overall a great “light” version that covers most birds.

This book was really helpful in Ireland as we drove all over the country identifying birds. i thought the pictures were very useful. My husband wanted more detailed description of behaviors and habitate.

Bought this book as a gift for a birder friend and just glancing through it she loved it and is excited for using it to her upcoming trip to Ireland.

Bird book to add to anyone’s collection.

If you are traveling to Ireland and are a bird watcher then this is the book for you. We used it to identify birds we were unfamiliar with. Tells areas you will see birds. Excellent descriptions. Able to identify many birds I have never seen before. Multiple life birds.

I enjoyed using this book on a recent trip to Ireland - very helpful identifying a variety of birds that were new to me.

This is the pefect Irish companion to the Collins Bird Guide, which covers a lot of species that are not found in Ireland. I really like the 'Similar female ducks' page the fact that this is based on photographs also nicely complements the illustration based Collins Guide. For a beginner to Irish birdwatching this is probably a good starting point as you will not be confused/overwhelmed by non-Irish species.Overall a great guide and highly recommended.

Great little book, packed with photos of birds in various stages of maturity. Easy to use and great to give as a gift to anyone curious about our feathered friends. Recommended.

Clear photos of male, female, young. Grouped by type. Simple, no fuss, birds seen in Ireland only. Exactly what I needed.

This book is to the brim with pictures!! Which is handy if you are a birdwatch amateur like me who couldn't tell two corvids apart beforehand. Very easy to flip through. Recommended on-field reference book.
