I painted the hood of my Jeep Grand Cherokee and used two cans. Wish I had a third, but still came out good. I'm painting a fishing rod and need a clear that is flexible.** A: I am not a professional and can't say for sure. I've used this clear on alloy wheels and steel only. It worked really well those surfaces. I do have some fender flares that I need to paint and have considered whether or not to use 2k in a can product on it. I'm thinking it will be best to have them sprayed by a shop that will use a 3 part mix including a flex additive of some kind. For my case I'm less concerned about the flex as I am about the uv protection. For a fishing rod, I would be really concerned about it cracking because of the lack of a flex additive in the can product. As far as I know the can is a 2 part mix only adding hardener to the paint. **Q: Could this spray be used to protect a deep scratch on a car? I’m trying to find a product that will prevent rust and protect the car through winter.** A: Likely, you are better off filling the scratch in with some filler/bondo if its really thick, sanding to make everything even, spraying it with primer/urethane paint, and then clearing it with 2K clear.. **Q: Should I sand off the cheap (1k) clear coat or should I just scuff up the current clear coat and apply this 2k on top?** A: A fresh surface is always best. I would do a fine grit sand and then tack cloth wipe. It obviously doesnt look as good on rough areas as it does on smooth surfaces. I didn't get any fish eyes at all. I sprayed the blue on my front clip so far to preserve the original paint on my 83 Ford. The fenders came out smooth as glass. I put on a tack coat and 2 very wet coats in a 90 degree garage. I didn't have any issues with runs. For a spray can, I think it turned out pretty good. I will caution folks to order more than you think you'll need.
