If the hole needed is more than say 7 or 8mm, it would be sensible to drill a 4mm hole first, then open it out with increasingly larger bits. For a 10mm hole start with a 3 or 4mm, then up to 7mm then then 10mm to finish. It keeps the drill stress free and achieves the end result.
