They do very well in rain and snow, but they are not "waterproof" One's feet will get wet with prolonged exposure/immersion in water. **Q: How’s the width? I see that most people recommend going down one size, but how’s the width on them?** A: I agree with James here. The width is a little narrow and these shoes are stiff as heck until broken in, I recomend using a leather conditioner as soon as possible to assist in this process and protect the fine leather of the boot. They are somewhat longer though, I normally wear a 12 and I purchased a 11.5 in store and I still have a little room. I recommend going to a Red Wing specific store if possible before purchasing. The one I went to in Phoenix, AZ was super helpful and they had a machine that you stand on that measures your foot size and pressure points to give very accurate shoe sizing and possible insole considerations.
