I don't believe this is an accident and find it dishonest. Nor does it come with a shiny varnish coating, as per the photo. The thing is, it's a really nice table otherwise, and if not for this naked dishonestly, I'd have happily given it 5 stars, but this totally unnecessary act of charlatanism warrants poor reviews. It fits our mountain cabin style living room perfectly. The colour turned out a tad lighter than expected (we ordered dark oak) but it turned out not to bother us - if one wanted they could always but a darker shade of stain and give it a darker coating. One star minus is for the packaging - the corners weren't properly protected and one corner is slightly smashed.
