One is a three prong power plug, and yes you will need to plug it into an outlet to power it. The second, 2 wire set, is for connection to your furnas or dehumidifier if you want to have automatic shut down of the furnas or dehumidifier should the pump experience an extremely high water level. You don't have to connect these two wires unless you want the extra protection it affords.
