## Description

Sony Music Masterworks is thrilled to announce it's first release from Nigel Stanford, the creator behind the viral "Cymatics" video that visualized a brand-new synthesis of music, art and physics. Accompanied by a new title-track video that's sure to amaze, Automatica will be released on September 15, 2017 Automatica is the New Zealand artist's first album since 2014's Solar Echoes, which featured the "Cymatics" single. Automatica takes Stanford's trademark synthesis of dance-pop, electronica, and technological innovation to a new level. It's also his first album with vocals, featuring guest singers Catey Shaw, Elizaveta, and Dallin Applebaum, and rapper Noah Caine. "I've done the instrumental thing my whole life, but I've always loved pop music, loved rap, " Nigel says, "and 'Cymatics' gave me a bit more exposure and allowed me to meet some more talented people and not do everything my own self!" Still, he does play all the instruments - not just electronics but also guitar, bass, and drums. "Most of the drums were real at one point, " he adds with a laugh, "before getting processed and sampled and chopped up."

This is the title song that I saw on someones Facebook page one day and really enjoyed listening to it. So much so that I went to Amazon online and looked it up and was happy to find this Automatica cd by Nigel Stanford, and even found another cd by him called Timescapes. Even better yet, I was able to play and listen to both right then . In my review of Timescapes I said that I am a 60's and 70's classic rock (and symphony) music person, But this has my attention now. There are a couple of songs with singing in them which are good, but I am really into the music by itself. It has the sound to me of both Rock and Symphony with an Electronic effect to it, and that makes for a GREAT sound!! Also well worth the money.........

NOT on automatic pilot. Definitely in sport mode.

I *love* this album. The video for 'Automatica' was simply electrifying (heavy industrial robots playing musical instruments with a deft light touch). But the rest of the album is almost as good (like 'Icarus'). I can't *help* but move every time I hear the lead song. In a car listening to this album, I'd find it hard not to leave the speed limit behind; but on my motorcycle, I'd enter orbit. Several tracks include vocals by Catey Shaw and others. They're euro-poppish and recall Olive's album 'Trickle', which I also like a bunch.

Lovers of Solar Echoes may be Disappointed

Let me begin by saying I like this album. But if you are expecting another collection that is like Solar Echoes, you may be disappointed. All of the songs are have a similar sound to Solar Echoes. In fact, some of the tracks would be at home on that album. However, many of the tracks have vocals, making this album very different. There is only one track that I don't like, and that is the remix of Cymatics which has Rap lyrics-- I frequently skip that track now. There's still plenty of Nigel Stanford musical magic in the vocal tracks, you just have to focus on that part of the track to appreciate it. My advice to Nigel in future releases would be to offer a mix of each track with vocals and one without. Many artists do this now. As it is, I will be creating two Nigel Stanford playlists-- one having mostly non-vocal tracks, and the other having everything minus the Cymatics Rap remix.
