Safe™ detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them. Safe™ is non-acidic and will not impact pH. Safe™ will not overactivate skimmers. Use at start-up and whenever adding or replacing water.

Review: Great Product for Removing Chlorine From Your Aquarium - I was originally using Seachem Prime to treat my aquarium water and then reading some forums I discovered Safe and decided to do some research on this. It's essentially the same product as Prime just in dry powdered form and more concentrated so you save money in the long run. This product should last me years even with weekly water changes. I have a 30 gallon tank so whenever I do a water change I usually siphon out about 15% of my water. I then put the dose of Safe into my tank as my bucket isn't very large. If you are changing water in a larger tank, you can also treat each individual bucket as you want but I find it easier to just dose the entire tank and then start adding in the new water after making sure it is the same temperature as the water in my tank. This is especially true if you are using a siphon that hooks up to your sink or hose for quick water changes. I follow the instructions from Seachem's website: Directions for all other sizes (this is different if you buy the 50g or 100g sizes!) Use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp.) for every 1,250 L (300 gallons) as needed to reduce chlorine and chloramine or use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp.) for every 300 L (75 gallons) for ammonia. Since my tank is only 30 gallons I use (1/10) of that dose to treat the entire tank. That ends up being 1/40 of a teaspoon so I had to buy some smaller measuring spoons. I use 1/32 of a teaspoon and have seen no ill effects with using this slightly higher dose as you would be using more for ammonia anyways. I've been using Prime for years and now been using Safe for over a month and have had no issues with my fish and chlorine and they seem very happy and healthy. You can also double or triple this dose in an emergency if you and need to quickly detoxify nitrites and nitrates.
Review: Great value, must buy if you're not using RODI water - Works well, lasts a very a long time, and it's a great value. Like other dechlorinators, it's sulfur based so it smells awful, especially so because it's the concentrated powder. BUT It's really good at what it does for much cheaper than any other product. It took me 2.5 years to get through one bottle.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: So if i have an empty 500ml bottle of prime laying around how much safe do i need to add in order for it to be the same as if i were to buy prime?**
A: I make mine in an empty plastic gallon container because more dilute is easier. Prime dosage is 1mL per 10g. You're wanting a total of 500mL to treat 5000g. For Safe, 1/4 of a teaspoon treats 300g. And, just to note, there are 3 teaspoons in a tablespoon. 5000/300=16.667 ||| .25tsp X 16.667 = 4.167 ||| 4.167/3=1.389So, 4.167 teaspoons in the 500mL bottle. Or for simplicity, 1.389 tablespoons. You could probably do 1 tablespoon and another 1/3 tablespoon aka a teaspoon.I've never made Safe so concentrated, you may need to use slightly warmed water to make sure everything gets saturated. Also always shake before you use it.

**Q: if 5gr of safe treats 100gal then 250gr treats 5000gal, and 5ml of prime treats 50gal then 500ml treat 5000gal as well and its the same price**
A: 1 gram of Safe treats of 200 gallons, 1 ml of Prime 10 gallons. 250 grams of Safe treats of 50,000 gallons, 500 ml of Prime 5,000 gallons. Thus, you get more for your money :).

**Q: What is the difference between safe & prime? i currently use prime but am interested in safe for my larger aquarium i just set up**
A: Safe is basically the powdered form of prime, that's what we use in our shop ( we have over 600 aquariums)

**Q: Can i recharge purigen with safe?**
A: Yes Please read:

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best aquarium products for multiple tanks!
*by C***N on November 7, 2025*

Sneaky this is the best amazing products for people with multiple tank syndrome. Make water in mass and so much cheaper than prime. There’s no way I could afford prime for 15 tanks.
