You essentially have 1 headboard, 1 footboard, 2 side panels and the slats. The headboard and footboard bolts fitted which the side panels simply hook onto, then you just tighten the bolts so they're secure (spanner or grips needed). The slats simply rest down the the middle. It literally took longer to unpackage than it did to put the bed together. Standard single mattress fits the base perfectly.
