Review: Superior para negativos. Altamente recomendada. - Tengo el 700 ya. Este V850 pro es mucho mejor; con excelentes resultados en el escaneo de negativos en el modo profesional. He probado otros de menor precio pero al final sali perdiendo porque se fueron a la basura. Ahora estoy por archivar mies de fotografías tomadas en los 60s y esta es la herramienta mas importante en lograr la documentación de imágenes que de otra manera se perderian debido a que hacer reproducciones de nitrato de plata se llevaria demasiado tiempo y el costo seria exhorbitante. Mi escaner 700 también me da una gran nitidez y acabado. El hecho de que cuenta con dos juegos de plantillas es absolutamente indispensable para la producción. El costo refleja los resultados. Si se quiere trabajar en serio, otras marcas y menos costo ofrecen resultados inservibles y al final se queda uno con imágenes también inservibles. Altamente recomendada.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Anybody own the V600 and this one and can offer an opinion on the difference?  I can read the specs, interested in your direct experience.**
A: The V850 is much better.  The film/slide holders are better.  We had a problem scanning textured photos with the V600, but not with the V850.  The scans of film and slides are better.  Glad that we updated.

**Q: How do you use the fluid mount tray?. Does the film get wet?. Can you use it without the fluid ?. Thank you**
A: I would Google/YouTube "Wet Scanning" to get more details. But, to answer your question, yes the film will get wet. You put special fluid in the tray and then put your negative in it.  At a basic level, wet scanning will help at filling in scratches, reduce/eliminate light scattering and refraction, hold the image flat to the glass, and a variety of other benefits that can help improve the image quality for scanning. It adds quite a few steps (and time) to your workflow process. Unless you were working on a special project (books, etc.), going to make large prints, I wouldn't wet scan.

**Q: So load a slide tray and the software will cut them out and save each one in a seperate file? Can you load on several photos and auto cut into files?**
A: You can, yes.   The software (Silverlight) lets you do batch scanning where you set the multiple scan areas and then hit batch and it scans them in order.  You must set the scan area for the tray as well (Not automatic), but it works without the trays as well.

**Q: how does this compare to the Plustek for 35mm scans?**
A: I agree with B. Menke on this. While I do not have a Plustek, I do use a primefilm xas (and before a primefilm xa) for 35mm film scanning, A dedicated 35mm film scanner of decent quality will give better scans than a flatbed can. However, the Epson V850 is more versatile and I use it for medium and large format film. The Epson is the way to go if you don't exclusively shoot 35mm film and cannot afford to get two scanners.

Tengo el 700 ya. Este V850 pro es mucho mejor; con excelentes resultados en el escaneo de negativos en el modo profesional. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Delivers quality scans of life events long time passed!!!

Ordered the Epson Perfection V850 Pro Scanner a little over a month ago. At first I tried using the Silverfast SE plus 8 program that comes with the scanner but it did not install unto my IMac. Had to call the Silverfast company to find a fix which they did help me acquire! After it being installed I really tried using it but the tutorials, I find, aren’t user friendly; maybe because I am not a pro, but it was taking to long and I was in a hurry to get scanning!!! Left this program to go with the Epson provided program which is easy to use and understand once you realize you need to move the mouse to start each individual scan!!! Love, love, love this scanner!!!!!! So far I have used it to scan slides, old (1950’s)black and white negatives, as well as early coloured negatives and I am blown away that I am able to capture these old memories and store them digitally to be able to share with my family and friends!!! Easy to use as well as exceptional quality scans!!! To this date I highly recommend this scanner for the time of scans I am using it for, hence the 5 star rating!!!
