I wanted the ability to connect some old USB devices. I tried two devices like this that had a short cable to connect to the MBP. Every time I plugged or unplugged something, I would lose the connection to my external HD which was connected through the hub.I got this model because it fits flat against the computer and connects to two ports. I hoped it would be more stable. So far (2 months in) it has worked flawlessly. Very happy. No more unintended HD disconnects.May replace it with a more expensive one that includes HDMI (for full sized monitor) and Internet port. Currently using separate dongles for those.
