Review: Simple and effective - I bought this unit along with the 3.5 - 5.25 front panel convertor tray. It's a simple box with the facia with various inputs and at the rear is a single cable terminated with a 9 pin USB connector plug. The cable is off a decent length which enables the directing of the cable well out of the way of other components and keeps things neat and tidy. The 9 pin plug is the only connection required and easily connects to a spare USB header on the motherboard. Installation was easy and the supplied fixing screws ensure the unit is firmly secured to the convertor tray (which comes with it's own chassis screws). On powering up, the green power indicator light on the units front panel was illuminated as was the activity light when a storage device was plugged in. Files were opened with minimal delay. If you are looking for a card reader/writer with the added bonus of an additional USB socket, then for the money, I can highly recommend this product. I bought this unit after having bought a similar product which failed to operate and is currently being returned. I wish I had gone with this one from the start. Not a single glitch with installation or functionality. No driver installation required either.

**Q: Is this suitable for replacing the ZIP drive on a Roland VP9000?**
A: I bought this to put in my VP9000 after reading all the forums. According to what I read you must use the correct compact flash cards or the VP9000 will not be able to use it. Seems it is more about the type of compact flash card than the actual IDE to CF adaptor. After reading deeper into the forums I ended up getting two "Transcend CF80 1GB Industrial" CompactFlash cards. I seem to remember the "Industrial" type is the key to making it work. Having said all that I have not actually got around to installing and testing in my VP9000 as I actually like using the ZIP to transfer to and from my PC. Sorry its not a definitive answer but after researching the forums I was willing to take the risk and buy it.

**Q: Do i need an ide cable or it is shipped with it?**
A: Yes, you need a IDE CABLE, NO it is shipped with it.

**Q: Is this item really only 1cm thick as i'm trying to fit a card reader and dvd into 5.25in bay.**
A: No, the 35FCREADBU3 is used for a 3.5" internal bay. Atha, StarTech.com Support

**Q: Does this require connection to the PSU or is it powered from the USB header alone?**
A: To the best of my recollection it is powered from the USB header alone. However it is some time since I fitted it and I no longer have the computer to which it is fitted.
