Versatile phono preamp supports MM and MC cartridges, offering great value. Review: Decent Phono amp for the money. - This is a simple, no frills phono pre-amp that sounds better than many built in phono options. Great is also that it can be switched to accept MC cartridges, be it that there are no other adjustments you can make. The unit is well build and surprisingly heavy for it's small size. It comes with a simple external power supply, and in my view is the only thing that lets it down. Would have preferred a better quality power supply (internal or external) for the price. Other than that, it does what it says on the tin and sounds great in my system. Review: Excellent preamp - OK simply this is an extremely accomplished phono preamp. The important bit is how does it sound ? .Detailed fast and open, it allows the music to breath with V good channel desperation, believe it's a dual mono circuit. Bass is fast and precise not slurred over exaggerated or boomy. Mid range is clear and well balanced whilst at the top end its not splashy or harsh. It genuinely does extract just more presence and ambiance from records both old and new 180 gram ones. Now I know hifi can be a black art ,and this is just one component in a chain but it's turned out to be a massive improvement. Front end is a 70s Sony SL direct drive and end bit a w.a.d. valve amp no esoteric cables. And finally no hum or background hiss. Any negatives ? Wall wart slightly larger than usual fodder and works well stays cool. I suspect a higher capacity,/spec switch mode PSU would only improve it. But more than happy just to enjoy. Incidentally it's also V well built and nicely finished and it does have an earth tag if you need it, I didn't. ## Features - For amplifiers without a phono input: Phono Box is suitable for MM and MC cartridges, and its analogue output simply connects to a line input (AUX etc.) on your amplifier - Phono preamplifier with MM/MC switch: MM 47 kohms / 120 pF with 40 dB gain, MC 100 ohms / 120 pF with 60 dB gain; precise RIAA equalisation, deviation max. 0.5 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz - Low-noise ICs and low-impedance output stage: signal-to-noise ratio 94 dBA with MM and 75 dBA with MC, THD 0.01% with MM and 0.05% with MC, maximum output voltage 9.5 V - Hard-gold-plated RCA sockets, compact: at 103 x 36 x 104 mm (115 mm with sockets) it can sit close to the turntable; faceplate in black or silver, plug-in 18 V DC power supply, standby under 1 watt - Pro-Ject Audio Systems: made in Europe since 1991 by technicians, engineers and designers with decades of experience; expert craftsmanship and sustainable products with a long lifetime ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B007DB5I60 | | Best Sellers Rank | 36,606 in Electronics & Photo ( See Top 100 in Electronics & Photo ) 167 in Hi-Fi Amplifiers | | Brand | Pro-Ject | | Customer Reviews | 4.5 out of 5 stars 899 Reviews | | Global Trade Identification Number | 05940982087826 | | Item Dimensions | 21.5 x 18 x 7.5 centimetres | | Item Highlight | Switchable MM/MC, precise RIAA equalisation, low-noise ICs, hard-gold-plated RCA sockets, under 1 W in standby | | Item Weight | 1.19 Pounds | | Item dimensions L x W x H | 21.5 x 18 x 7.5 centimetres | | Manufacturer | Pro-Ject Audio Systems | | Manufacturer Part Number | FBA_13072 | | Material | Metal | | Maximum Supply Voltage | 120 Volts | | Maximum supply voltage | 120 Volts | | Minimum Supply Voltage | 9.5 Volts (AC) | | Minimum supply voltage | 9.5 Volts (AC) | | Model Number | FBA_13072 | | Mounting Type | Surface Mount | | Mounting type | Surface Mount | | Number of Channels | 2 | | Number of Items | 1 | | Number of Packs | 1 | | Package Type Name | box | | Specification Met | Riaa Response Accuracy 0.5db (20-20,000 Hz), Thd 0.01% (Mm), Thd 0.05% (Mc) | | UPC | 780746656784 | | Unit Count | 1.0 count | | Voltage | 240 Volts | ## Product Details - **Item dimensions L x W x H:** 7.5 x 10.7 x 7.2 centimetres - **Manufacturer:** Pro-Ject Audio Systems - **Maximum supply voltage:** 120 Volts - **Minimum supply voltage:** 9.5 Volts (AC) - **Voltage:** 120 ## Images ![Pro-Ject Phono Box, MM/MC phono preamplifier, Black - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/4145OviAw+L.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: My amplifier has no phono input. Similar specification. Same manufacturer. Same dimensions. Same dual MM/MC operation, except push button change from one to the other outside the casing instead of changing jumpers inside the casing. Sure, it felt significantly weightier, more solid. Sure the silver finish was classier than the old black. But the expectation remained that it couldn't possibly sound much better - could it? YES IT COULD! From the very first note it was obvious that my 16 year old satisfaction with the Phono Box Mk 1 had been misguided. The urge to upgrade finally won, and I am glad it did! More of everything. More tuneful bass. More twangy guitar. Drums more solid. Less splashy cymbals with good decay. Brassy brass. You name it, it's much better with the Mk.3. Beyond all expectations. Just one drawback; now my trusty 16 year old Debut is in the firing line for an upgrade.....more expense.... ## Frequently Bought Together - Pro-Ject Audio - Phono Box DC - MM/MC Phono preamp with line Output (Black) - Monoprice 1.5ft Premium 2 RCA Plug/2 RCA Plug M/M 22AWG Cable - Black - Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO, Audiophile Turntable with Carbon Fiber tonearm, Electronic Speed Selection and pre-Mounted Sumiko Rainier Phono Cartridge (High Gloss Black) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.pe/products/51485909-pro-ject-phono-box-mm-mc-phono-preamplifier-black](https://www.desertcart.pe/products/51485909-pro-ject-phono-box-mm-mc-phono-preamplifier-black) --- *Product available on Desertcart Peru* *Store origin: PE* *Last updated: 2026-10-13*
