Use appropriate safety measures if installing long-term. *by on Reviewed in Canada 30 April 2025* Let's start by getting the elephant out of the room: this is a direct-from-China special, and you should expect appropriate quality for the price. You do very much get what you pay for compared to sourcing a drastically more expensive name-brand boost converter from an electronics distributor.And yes, I overspecced it. Dramatically; I bought the 480W version despite expecting a 230W peak load after future system upgrades. I don't entirely trust it, and so it is also monitored by the power delivery system with emergency shutoff capabilities, as well as being fused with a 25A circuit breaker on the input.So far the converter has performed flawlessly, with an output of 24.02V according to my multimeter - which is incredibly impressive given that the input can be anywhere from 10V to 14.5V depending on the charge of the battery used as an input.So would I recommend this? Absolutely, with one caveat: make sure it is fused. Get yourself a circuit breaker and put it on the 12V input side. Figure out your peak current on the 24V side, then multiply by 2.25 (since the input is 12V) and get a circuit breaker rated for that.
