## Description

Swiftair SHUMID with Humidity and timer Surface mounted fan controller. White, ABS thermoplastic construction. Suitable for domestic use Specifications: Timer 2-30min (Must have live, Switched live & Neutral) **** Please see picture for wiring instructions ****

Review: Cheaper than all there others and does the job - Much cheaper than alternatives and works well. It is pure white so looks cleaner than the pictures. Setting the humidity and timer is a bit finicky to get right but I ly something you have to do once. It comes with a shallow surface mounted back box with holes in the sides ideal for if your wires are in trunking. It does fit a standard 1 gang back box though if your wires are in the wall making the installation tidier and a little bit shallower. If I had one complaint it's that the timer is for the switch only and not the humidistat. So the humidistat turns the fan on then when it drops the below humidity it stops immediately but the actual humidity is only just below the threshold as the air moves the fan comes on and off until the humidity drops further
Review: Didn't work for me. - Replaced a faulty Manrose unit. Not working, fan ran when set to lowest humidity, but when adjusted to the set point just clicked on and off in quick succession, so the fan would not get up to speed. Now fan will not run at all. Reviews and pictures seem to be for another version also.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: if wired between my light and extractor fan will the fan start straight away or only when the humidity is triggered. dont want it to run allthetime**
A: Item requires a permanent live connection to allow the timer / humidity overrun function to operate. The answer to your question is that if connected appropriately, the fan will initiate EITHER when the light is switched on OR when the humidity reaches the set trigger level. The fan will then run whilst EITHER of these conditions is met & then continue for the run-on time set on the timer. So to be clear; if you enter the room & switch the light on the fan will start & run whilst the light is on. Once the light is switched off, the fan will continue to run for the timer duration. If the humidity in the room rises, e.g. taking a shower during the day, then the fan will start when the set humidity level is reached, this happens independently of the light operation. The fan will run until the humidity level drops below set level & then continue for the timer duration before switching off. These two functions 'overlay' each other, so whichever is the first will start the fan & whichever is the last to 'go off' will start the timer to shut down. I hope this hasn't confused you. I find this unit really good. I have replaced the light switch 'input' by a presence sensor in my (separate) loo. The fan extracts from both rooms, so if anyone enters the loo the fan starts day or night, light on or not., If the bathroom becomes humid, the fan starts, as previously described. I recommend this unit.

**Q: looking to automate the extractor fan in the bathroom without the need for a traditional switch - can i replace the switch on the wall with this?**
A: I have a different one which looks more like the Manrose 1361, but if this works in the same way i wired it through a fuse from the lighting circuit and then connected the fan to it instead of a switch. It switches the fan on when the humidity is above the setting and off when it is below the setting. it works best with the sensor on the wall near the shower (at regulation distance) and the ceiling. make sure you check the wiring regulations as it should be fitted in the correct zone. i don't use the timer function.

**Q: Will this switch my dehumidifier on when the humidity level goes higher than say 50%, our electrician says it needs attaching to light switch?**
A: Just fitted one last week and the answer is yes, although i have wired this one as follows, permanent live feed from lighting ring (did not use switched live at all) into a switched, fused spur, fused to 3 amp. Then this is connect to phase and neutral terminals within the humidistat / timer (ie permanent live terminal) note the LT terminal is not used. Then connect M1 and M2 to the load, in my case a wall mounted de-humidifier as do not like the idea of pumping out the hot air just because its got a bit of moisture in it. this way if anyone takes a bath or shower the room stays nice and toasty but with very little steam / damp build up. But two things to consider, you need to think about extraction in the event of bad smells!! myself being tight and liking a warm room have a timed extractor fan that is connected to a proximity sensor, so you pass your hand over the front to start the fan, there are some on the market like my one that is actually mounted behind the tiles so you can not even see it, The other very very important thing to remember is the zones, most of the kit above only has a low IP rating so it must all be within zone 3 and ideally at high level, also I would always recommend for comfort either ensuring either an RCD or a RCBO at 6 amp is used on the lighting circuit (typical domestic kit in most modern houses). Also you should get the work tested and signed off for compliance of part P regs, this info above is only my method and ideads, you should seek independent advice to ensure compliance and a safe installation.

**Q: how long is the warranty, what are the terms of the wRranty?**
A: Hi. I can’t help you on the warranty length or quality of the warranty as my one is two and a half years old. What I can say is it hasn’t missed a beat and when I compare the Manual settings on my Dyson fan, it reports a very similar humidity level as this stat. It’s worked well for me in a humid bathroom. I trust it and would buy again if I needed to. Best of luck.

Good unit and half the price of the Manrose one. The wiring instructions can be a bit confusing so I placed it on a table and used a volt meter to work out how to wire it. The left terminals are the feed in L SL N and you only need a switched live coming from the bathroom light switch if you want to use the timer. FL and FN go to the fan. If the fan already has a permanent feed as in my case and you just want to send a voltage to it telling it to switch on, then take a live out (FN) and send it to the fan. I would have expected FL to be the switched live out, but the meter showed 240v across the neutral in (N) and FN oddly, but it works. Hope this helps!
