## Description

Product Description 21st April 2008 will see the arrival of the brand-new Whitesnake album Good To Be Bad, a masterpiece consisting of eleven songs and featuring all the important trademarks of the band, as well as a fresh breeze courtesy of Coverdale's fantastic voice and current line-up. Good To Be Bad is pure and unadulterated Whitesnake, a classy recording that really doesn't require a more detailed description. Fans have waited almost eleven years for the release of a new studio album. From the Artist The new album sounds so unmistakably, typically Whitesnake says David Coverdale: "For me, the heart and soul of Whitesnake remains the same." It's no surprise that Good To Be Bad has turned into more than a terrific album, but is without doubt one of the best releases in this band's long history. "For me, it has all the elements, all the ingredients that I enjoy about Whitesnake", says Coverdale. "It's a very solid, muscular, melodic rock record with a couple of fine ballads, so there's a little tenderness when the moment calls for it, and of course the ballads help balance out the chest beaters! I find it a very complete piece of work, actually. It covers a lot of musical ground, a positive chapter in the Book of Whitesnake."

    A welcome return.

There are some great tracks here Best Years is a good opener, Can You Hear The Wind Blow and Got What You Need are superb and there are some decent ballads with Summer Rain and All I Want,All I Need which is exactly what you would expect from this band.David Coverdale has a distinctive voice and although he may not belt out heavy tunes like he did 25/30 years ago it is by no means a dud.The album is littered with references to songs from the band's history within the lyrics, Lay Down your Love and Got What You Need are prime examples. Please buy the album for the music and not for the ephemera - stickers, postcards and posters the plural is a little artistic licence and obviously refers to the fact that there is one of each in each box, one sticker etc. The bonus CD is pretty decent including an acoustic version of Summer Rain and a live version of Take Me With You although with a back catalogue as impressive as Whitesnake has no doubt we would all have a favourite track we would like to have heard live in its place. The music I would give 5 stars to but I personally bought this for the extra goodies and although it looks great I would have liked a few extra freebies so this rating is purely for the package as a whole. So many of the 1970's and 1980's bands are still going strong and it's nice to see that Whitesnake are among them and I'm looking forward to seeing them at the MEN Arena soon.

    Good Honest Whitesnake

*by M***M on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 16 June 2008*

It was close, giving this five stars. I almost put it down for four but then I had another couple of listens to the album in the gym and came to the conclusion that it really is a top notch Whitesnake record. Now, I don't for a moment think that this is a classic record, because it's not. Certainly it would never hold up to say, Back in Black which is also a five star record, but if you like Whitesnake then this is one of the better ones. Clearly like many here, I grew up listening to Whitesnake, so being a fan I was a tad concerned that DC would punt out another middling record and at first I had that feeling when I heard it. However this does grow on one, and by time I'd heard it three times I really got into it. I don't think that there is a duff song on the whole album and even the slow numbers have a sense of blusey power that harks back to the 80's heyday. I also suspect that many of us have bought the new Def Leppard record as well, and I think that this just shades it to be honest. So to round up, if you like Whitesnake, then buy this because it is a good solid effort. If you don't like Whitesnake then after 25 years I don't think that this record is going to make you into a fan.

    Pure Snake Venom!

*by G***S on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 21 April 2008*

An excellent return by DC and company. Have just given this it's first spin at high volume and this is my initial reaction. The first three tracks smash your eardrums to pieces before a let up in the pace with "All I want All I need". I can see "Can you hear the wind blow" becoming a firm favorite with the whitesnake faithful. The record gets more whitesnake in the mid and later sections, "All for love" sounds like it could well have been taken straight from "1987" and "A fool for love" smacks heavily of crying in the rain.Anyone who knows about Doug Aldrich will quickly realise from the opening track that this record has got his fingerprints all over it. DC is on fine form and the band sound great. All in all a mighty fine effort, I reckon after few spins we will love it almost as much as 1987.If this is to be DC's last record he has definitely gone out all guns a blazing. But if he can still produce stuff this good I hope (and I won't be alone in saying this) that he can find enough snake venom left in the tank for one last hurrah.
