Turn the crank backwards until the degree wheel reads 8 degrees BTDC. 4. Align the distributor rotor with the cap location for the #1 spark plug wire. 5. Line up the magnetic pickup with the reluctor. 6. Just slightly rotate the distributor backwards from the normal direction of rotation. The contact points should be barely misaligned. Install the distributor and tighten it down. 7. The Initial Timing is now set for 8 degrees BTDC. **Q: This only advances by whole degrees right? Not 1/10?** A: Yes whole degrees. **Q: Is the Innova 3568 timing light "self-powered"?** A: No, it is not. It requires a 12V source to connect it to. Typically, you're using the timing light in the engine bay, so you can connect the lead to the car's battery. If your car's battery is in the trunk/boot, most such cars will have a connector somewhere in the engine bay specifically for use with a timing light. **Q: Which way does the arrow face on the clamp that gies to 1st plug wire?** A: I'm not 100% sure if the inductive pickup detachable lead is directional, but I would always clip the inductive pickup on the #1 plug wire, with the arrow pointing towards the spark plug.
