## Description

From fast movement to challenging low-light situations, and from big prints to movies, the D5500 is perfect for creative individuals looking to take their photography to the next level. The camera's large 24.2 megapixel DX-format image sensor and an ISO range of 100-25,600 ensure you'll capture crisp, clean, images even in low light conditions. Combined with the power of a compatible NIKKOR lens, you get images that explode with clarity. Even when printed large or shown on a big screen, your photos and movies will be crystal-clear reflections of the way you see the world.Significantly lighter and much slimmer than its predecessor, the D5500 boasts a monocoque structure, weighting in at just 420g (without battery and memory card) and a deep grip for improved handling.Leave image-blur behind and enjoy the freedom to create vibrant, richly detailed images that command attention. When it comes to getting the shot you want, the D5500's advanced performance ensures results that never fail to impress. Specifically designed without an optical low-pass filter (OLPF), the camera's image sensor makes the most of its 24.2-megapixel resolution to render images with incredibly crisp detail. An ISO range of 100-25,600 allows you to shoot brilliant photos and movies even when the light is scarce. Nikon's 39-point autofocus system with nine cross-type sensors in the centre is always on target no matter where your subject is in the frame; and continuous shooting speeds of up to 5 frames-per-second mean fleeting gestures or facial expressions can be snapped at exactly the right moment, even when the action is fast. With Nikon's EXPEED 4 image processor enabling high-speed operation, advanced noise reduction, and smooth movie recording, you're free to capture memorable moments with confidence.Touchscreen control, vari-angle artistry, and built Wi-Fi: the D5500 makes it easy to get creative with your photography. Simply flip, tilt, or rotate the large vari-angle monitor to compose shots that reflect your view on the world, then tap the responsive touchscreen to focus and shoot, or adjust settings such as aperture, ISO and shutter speed. Swipe to scroll through images, or pinch-to-zoom in or out during playback. Find the shots you love, then share them using the built-in Wi-Fi function. You can even take advantage of the camera's touch control options when shooting through the viewfinder, thanks to the "Touch Fn" function that lets you quickly adjust key setting with a finger swipe. Up to eight settings can be assigned to the "Touch Fn" function, including focus points, AF area modes, aperture, and ISO sensitivity. The Wi-Fi function also makes it possible to control the camera remotely using the connected smart device: considering the vari-angle monitor and the quality of the images, your selfies will be stunning self-portraits.When the occasion calls for video, the D-Movie function records smooth, finely detailed Full HD video clips at frame rates up to 50p/60p.

Review: amazing piece of kit. - I'm sure that if you're reading this you've already did your research and know specs of this DSLR front to back so I won't bore you with any more. Instead I'll tell you about the things I didn't read about before I bought it. so camera itself is outstanding. I love it and take it everywhere with me. Pictures quality is superb. camera comes with a complete manual but it is in black & white and there's nikon app that has it all in colour anyway so be sure to download that. camera has a built in wifi so no need to buy a remote for it. Just turn wifi on and download nikon app. Wifi also allows you to view your photos on the phone or a tablet. transfer speed is ok. but considering file sizes it's understandable. if you do that. Ale sure you have some spare batteries if you're out and about as this will increase battery consumption. Now the touch screen. Everyone I came across told me that you don't need a touch screen on dslr and it's only a gimmick. true but it's a cool gimmick and also it allows you to interact with yiur camera more freely. Touch screen will allow you to scroll through your gallery, change camera settings. it support pinch to zoom which is handy and also you can pick a point to focus your lens of which is great in some circumstances when auto focus doesn't want to detect exact spot you'd like it to choose. Overall it's a great camera to get into photography. I have only started not long ago but I love it and it's with paying few extra quid for
Review: Magnificent - I haven't owned a DSLR camera for quite a while, but I decided to get back into it. What a camera to go with, especially at the price point. An absolute joy to use, with the touchscreen being more useful than I could have imagined, and sensible controls that mean you get a responsive and highly functional camera. The body is ludicrously light and feels comfortable in the hand, and I can see the fold-out screen being a gem. The pictures are in a word, amazing. Fantastic clarity and depth in a range of lighting conditions, with some nice effects & scenes thrown in to boot. I've only taken one short video so far, but the quality seems superb as well. The only minor issue is the camera-mounted microphones (stereo!) pick up a fair bit of AF noise, but unless you're moving around a lot this won't be a huge issue. I believe Nikon supply some ext microphones as well at a reasonable price. The kit lens it comes with is pretty good, I suppose what you'd expect, but at £10 extra it would be silly not to. Blows all similarly-priced Canon competition out the water (and plays tough with some of the pricier models), and even comes close to matching the D7200, a good £200 more expensive. Even more impressive considering its tiny size. Seriously, this thing is almost pocket sized. I can't recommend this enough to the beginner photographer, gifted amateur, or anybody, for that matter. Five stars.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: can you tell me if this is a grey import or a model just for the uk market. thanks.**
A: The one I got was a genuine European model ( as are all the non grey imports ) and as such is covered by the full Nikon UK guarantee.

**Q: I already have this camera but i just wondered if i can use a extreme pro sd card?**
A: I have an extreme sd card but I don't see why the extreme pro wouldn't work. It's just super fast so it becomes "pro" level.

**Q: Can you clarify exactly what items are included with purchase (body, lens, battery, sd card, etc...)? Thank you.**
A: When I purchased mine, the kit included body, 18-55mm lens, battery, battery charger and lens and body caps; strap, usb and video cable, and instructions but no SD card. And, although it wasn't what you asked, I've been delighted with it.

**Q: What is the zoom range**
A: 3 x zoom

### ⭐⭐⭐ I was probably expecting too much.
*by D***Y on 15 January 2016*

I feel a little reluctant to leave a less than 5 star review on this item because all the other reviewers seem to be extremely happy with the camera., but I have based my review on my experience and have also considered that the unit I had may have been faulty. I have not used a Nikon camera for about 4-5 years with the last one being a Nikon D300S, witch is widely regarded as being about the best crop sensor camera ever made and I think is still available in Nikons current UK line up. I have been a Canon user since then to date, but after I dug out my old D300S and bought a couple of cheap kit lenses to bundle up and give to a friend I was amazed how quite simply superb the latest Nikon VR2 range of lenses are, even the real £50 - £100 budget lenses. So I thought I would try a latest mid range crop sensor Nikon being the D5500. 4 - 5 years of technology improvements in cameras had given me the hope that the D5500 would be on a par with the D300S but I was very wrong. Where pretty much every handheld shot from the D300S was a keeper, those from the D5500 really didn't have the sharpness I was expecting form this model and had troule focussing on the desired subject. I appreciate that no camera maker is ever going to improve its entry level models so much that they are as good as its top line models, but I was expecting more. The camera design is very light and fits in the hand excellently, so the ergonomics are spot on. Video recording performance was disappointing but it is the same with any DLSR be it cheap or expensive, they just are not suited for fast video zooming and direction changes while keeping focus. A cheap Panasonic or Sony camcorder or compact camera will produce much better results and be far easier to control. I have allowed 3 stars based on the fact that I am sure that there must have been a fault with my unit as it was so disappointing and all the other reviewers seem delighted with their cameras. So I have decided to wait and check out the Nikon D500 when it becomes available as this appears to be more in the league I should have been selecting. You shouldn't need to use software to make a photo perfect it should come out of the camera that way.
