Its a lovely hard cover book with nice glossy pages, so should stand a fair bit of thumbing through. The message through the book is endearing, positive and sweet, and the illustrations are lovely. I also have 'Pirate Pete' but my 2 year old is more interested in this one. Don't let the words Mommy and Diaper put you off, the book reads very well, and will be a firm favourite throughout the rest of my pregnancy and into new baby territory! Whilst it does use the term 'diaper', its obviously pretty easy to substitute that for the word 'nappy' when reading it to my little boy so its no real problem. My son is 2 1/2 years and at 30 weeks pregnant I've just started reading this book with him. He seems very engaged and interested and its has led us on to talking about what it will be like when the baby comes along and what it will mean for him to be a big brother. What I particularly like is the emphasis on reminding him that he will still be very special to mummy & daddy and that he'll now have an extra special new role as 'big brother' and also reminding him of all the good things about being a big boy now (to try and temper any building jealousy). Unfortunately there is no mention of the possibility of breastfeeding the baby - as with most of these type of books that I've looked at they always talk about bottle feeding the baby. Overall, a good way to help explain to a little one what this might mean to them. Nice too that there is a 'big brother' and 'big sister version.
