Review: Quite effective and - so far - reliable. - I bought this a couple of months ago to repair an outside light that had a faulty PIR sensor. The sensor head on this product had the same dimensions as the original although the electronics module was slightly larger but there was enough space in the light housing for it to fit. Setting up the switches on the module was easy enough once I'd made sense of the instruction leaflet provided. (Switches are used to set the 'on time' of the lamp, the sensitivity to movement and whether it comes on any time or only after dark.) My outside light now works as well as it ever did. Note that the front of the sensor head is reasonably weatherproof but the back of the sensor head and the electronics module are not and must be protected by a suitable enclosure if used outside. I can't comment on the long term reliability as I've only been using it for two months, but so far, so good.

The mains neutral connects to the kit (and to the lights), the positive connects to the kit, and then the kit positive connects to the lights. There is a delay timer of a minute to several minutes and different sensitivity levels. Dead easy to install, I have mine set on 8 minutes as when walking in/out of the kitchen your hands are usually full of food. I'd recommend this, and not in the too distant future, I'll be buying another four for hall lights.

**Q: Has anybody else found that the sensor will only work with the lens removed?  unit functions normally until i put the lens back on the ir sensor.**
A: Mine works perfectly, my hand must be in close proximity, maybe within 25mm or so.

Check if there a protective film that hasn't been removed from the lens? Or maybe some other contaminant that is affecting its focus or protrusions from the moulding?

**Q: Anyone comment on the longevity of these? I am on my third of this type. They seem to go faulty relatively quickly-lights staying either on or off**
A: I've found them flaky with tungsten and fluorescent (especially) lights, but reliable with LED.  They all started out OK but the tungsten one started false positives that became incessant after 6 months The fluorescent strip lights on another (2x58w) would turn back on repeatedly a few times then settle down. Since replacing all the lights with LED they just work properly, even the oldest which is 9m old. I wouldn't now attempt using them with anything other than LED.

**Q: My sensor faces a shower cubicle (glass/stainless steel) and so is unable to detect any movement. Any ideas what to do?**
A: You need to reconnect the manual pull switch to switch the light on. Effectively the shower screen is isolating the use of the PIR detector, so you need to override with a manual switch. You need to be aware of the environment that is the need for 240v devises to be ip67 rated the pir device is not.

**Q: What are the dimensions of the sensor?**
A: This was used as a replacement for the sensor on the bathroom mirror. It is fitted, works perfectly and consequently it is difficult to give dimensions without removal. All I can say is that the hole into which it fits is approximately 12 mm measured from the outside.

I've bought and installed 4 of these so far. The oldest are 5 years old, and get daily use. All have been utterly reliable and behave exactly as you'd hope indoors. No false triggers and very flexible for timing. Outdoors (just the sensor, the box isn't waterproof) is more difficult, foliage and wind can trigger them even when set to low sensitivity, but that's a usual limitation with IR.
