I don't use it to play films although I have, you will need some software to do so, for burning you also only need the burning software. **Q: Can I use this to install windows 10 ?** A: I have have the LG blue Ray writer and it can be used the same as a DVD/CD writer/reader. You will need some software for Windows 10 but you can use Burnaware free or similar to get you started. Sometimes the burners come with some basic software. I personally use Nero as that also burns BleRay disks. Plenty of software out there. Hope this helps as I've used the LG for installing Windows 10. I use Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.
