For the diffuser you need to have one on each floor of the house. But with the spray you can target just the problem areas within the house. Having both at first night be a good idea. Cats will go back to the same place to pee if they can smell their scent from the last time even after the area has been cleaned. As well as the feliway I would suggest also buying something like cat off to thoroughly clean the area their peeing in which gets rid of the cats scent. With my cat she was very anxious and scratched and pulled up the carpet. We have both the diffuser and spray which has helped her. But for her scratching we also bought her a scratching pole and placed it next to the furniture/carpet where she kept scratching.
