## Description

From the manufacturer Sawyer Products Mini Water Filter About Sawyer Since 1984, Sawyer Products has offered one of the best, most technologically advanced solutions for protection against sun, bugs, water, and injuries- everything from first aid kits developed for wilderness to point-of-use water filters that filter contaminated water to levels cleaner than U.S. bottled water. Rated to 0.1 micron absolute, weighs only 2 ounces, and filters up to 100,000 gallons A lifetime of water at hand The Mini Water Filter is the lightest and most versatile personal filtration system from Sawyer. It weighs 2 ounces and fits in the palm of your hand. While incredibly small and convenient, this filter was tested to 10 million parts of bacteria and one million parts of protozoa without a single breakthrough — the highest testing level for filtration. The size, convenience, and performance of the Sawyer Mini filter make it perfect for everything from camping with the kids to travelling abroad where tap and bottle water cannot be trusted. It comes with all the accessories you need to use this system in any of the following ways Attach to the included 16 ounce reusable squeeze pouch to drink directly from the filter or squeeze water into a water bottle Attach to most disposable water or soda bottles Attach inline on a hydration pack — no adapters required Use the included personal drinking straw and drink directly from the source or scoop up a bottle of water directly from any freshwater lake, river or stream. Drink using the included pouch Attach to standard water bottles Sip directly with the included straw Filter into a water bottle Attach inline to a hydration pack Absolute Micron Filtering Technology Makes The Difference The proprietary element of Sawyer’s water filters is comprised of tiny "U" shaped micro-tubes that allow water to enter into their core through tiny micro-pores. The high number of those tiny tubes and their surface area allows the filter to have one of the fastest flow rates in the world. This high flow rate eliminates the need to store water, reducing the possibility of water contamination after the filtration process. Each filter is certified for absolute microns; that means there is no pore size larger than 0.1 in size. This makes it nearly impossible for harmful bacteria, protozoa, or cysts like E. coli, Giardia, Vibrio cholerae, and Salmonella typhi (which cause Cholera and Typhoid) to pass through the Sawyer Mini filter. Sawyer filters have been tested by independent and qualified research laboratories and found to remove 7 log (99.99999%) of bacteria and 6 log (99.9999%) of protozoa, exceeding US EPA standards. The filter does not remove chemicals, dissolved solids, or viruses. However, viruses are very rarely found in North America or when travelling to foreign cities. Sawyer's revolutionary filter technology is in use by hundreds of groups, including non-profit organizations, relief agencies, and governments in more than 70 countries around the world. Frequently Asked Questions Package Contents Sawyer Mini water filter with tip cap 16-ounce reusable squeeze pouch 7-inch drinking straw Cleaning plunger (syringe) How will I know when the filter is full of sediment? The flow of water will slow down. However, it will never fail. Once the filter starts to slow down simply backwash it and it will be as good as new. Is this good for kids at camp? Yes! It is easy and safe. It's small, lightweight, and priced so that everyone can have their own filter. It doesn't need all the small parts and accessories of first-generation filters to move from a hydration pack to a bottle to a pouch. Can I put the filter inline on my hydration pack? Yes, connectors for your hydration pack hose are built into the filter. Can I put the filter on a different / smaller bottle? As long as the bottle has a "standard" thread you can. Most soda and disposable water bottles made worldwide use this thread. How often should I clean the filter? For longer filter life, you should backwash and sanitize the filter after every outing. If I backwash it, will the bacteria in the city water grow in the filter? Sawyer recommends sanitizing the filter before storing it. If you backwash the filter and then use it, bacteria from the city water will not grow. Is it going to get clogged while I'm out on a trip? Even with very high particulate /turbid water you should get 5 to 10 gallons through the filter. If this is not enough water for your trip you should plan on field backwashing your filter.

Review: Must buy - Superb bit of kit Been procrastinating about buying one for nearly a year So many different options and brands, but bought this one after seeing the brand being used on YouTube Apparently it lasts for years, it’s small enough to put in your pocket. Used it a couple of times, was a little hesitant at first nut had no issues with it Only issue is the the pouch, it’s quite a hard material and the water from the river struggled to enter the pouch, not sure how long it will last, but desertcart sell something similar that will act as a replacement when it fails
Review: Fantastic Filter - Is the bag the best way of filling it? - It's smaller than my Katadyne Hiker Pro. It filters better (Katadyne 0.03 microns - Sawyer 0.01 microns). It will last waaaaay longer than the Katadyne. It's less than half the price, and it fits in my pocket. All these reasons the Sawyer wins, or otherwise outdoes my Kat. Yet. I still really don't like using it. Trying to get water into those silly, fiddly little bags is a ballache. Then trying to squeeze it into your mug, or whatever is also awkward. God help you if you've injured a hand. Also, while you're farting around getting water into your bottle, there's water dripping everywhere, which makes it very difficult, in my opinion, to keep potentially unhealthy water out of your drinking water. I carry it when on the moors with the dog. I have used it under such conditions, and I wasn't ill. But I treat it as an absolute last ditch survival item. Which is what I think it is. I am going to try it with a squeezy bottle instead of the bag. And also, use it as a drip filter to see if I get on with that method better. But, I think, if I want water at the riverside, whilst on the move, I'm sticking with my Kat. Bigger, heavier, not as efficient at filtering (though more than adequate for the UK). But simple, easy, quick and keeps both ends of the supply seperate from each other, and doesn't need any bags. To be honest, some of my most pleasant memories include sitting on a rock by the river, dangling my Kat hose in the water and pumping a few litres whilst looking at the scenery around me. (Rather than bent double, cursing and more likely to fall in the scenery than to appreciate it. All this is a matter of personal preference, at the end of the day, but for me, it all comes down to those stupid bags. I love that the filter fits coke bottles and radiators and all that, but, you know. Try one. They work. It does exactly what it claims to do. It may be perfect for you. But if I'm carrying both, I know which one will get used.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What stops (contaminated) water on the outside of the collection bag from dripping into your clean bottle? All pics show bag above clean bottle**
A: MikeMy Sawyer Water Filtration kit as pictured included gaskets that, when the bottle is tightened correctly prevents any contaminated water from entering your clean water container. I have several of these, one in each bug out bag and they are an excellent item. Very reliable. I have even use these on less-than-desirable water sources with zero problems multiple times.

**Q: is there a difference in the colors?**
A: No, the color does not mean anything. Although it is helpful if you will be in a group of hikers carrying their own filters, as it helps to identify which filter belongs to which person. But the color does not mean anything.

**Q: Could scouts use this esaily and also could you turn this into a gravity filter**
A: It is very easy to use. Just one precaution, Use care not to contaminate the filter like all water filters. It will screw onto any water/soda bottle and comes with a 1 liter bag. I force the water through myself, but you can gravity feed with some rigging. I love mine and is very small for what it can do. If you are using lake or river water in Florida, I would still boil or treat the water to be sure. If you are up in the mountains and have fast moving stream, I would have no problem drink without treating/boiling.

**Q: If I add Propel or Gatorade powder to the water will the filter take out all of electrolyte benefits?**
A: I'm not sure. However, you can use the gravity feed bag and put the clean water in a container then add the powder.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent, small, light and works well : ideal for travel
*by G***R on 24 January 2019*

Excellent, small, light and works well : ideal for travel. The tube itself is small and very easy to use with Clear instructions printed upon it; (basically pull water through one end, and draw out of the other, as marked with arrows). Supplied with an extension straw for drinking and a syringe for purge cleaning. The filter itself also has a standard thread so can be attached to (any standard) water bottle. The flat pack bag, supplied, takes no space at all, and is reusable; the neck of the bag is also designed to screw onto the filter. Its a good size to carry when both both full and empty. This can do a considerable amount of water filtration, so it's a tremendous SAVING both financially and to the environment from the scourge of plastic water bottles waste. See the Sawyer web site for the technical details, but this is a high specification purification system. Would HIGHLY recommend it is small easy to carry size and use.
