Trying to grow mescal lettuce would I just need this with soil in it or need the bottom tray** A: I feel the answer is yes. I just got mine and was confused. To do hydroponic micro greens you would put a tray with no holes under. Fill with water. To plant seeds you can use dirt. Or one of the planting fabrics. Or silicone mesh. The idea is to spray the seeds on top till they sprout enough to take root. Then the roots grow down into the water. With these trays through the holes. Make sure to get some solid. I hole trays. But they are sold seperste because people might use them in many way. Like. Building a very large hydro system where these sit in. Flood drain etc. just a note. Tim foil does not work well. At all. To turn these into holding water. **Q: I realize many people are saying these are sturdy, but how stiff are they? How much twist could I put on them using one hand at each end of the tray?** A: Mine are very thick. Normal ones are brittle and disposable. These feel like plastic kitchen bowls. You could drop them twist them s but. Beat them up. Have your kids play with them and use them for s long time. Don’t drive your car on it or stand on it. But think of it like plastic kitchen mixing bowls and not like the free plastic pots from the hardwere store. **Q: How can I purchase just 1 or 2 of these mesh trays? Our budget is tight, thanks!** A: Not currently available as a 1 or 2 pack. Due to the fee structure on Amazon it wouldn't be economical to do so as our fees would be greater than $10 for even 1 tray. **Q: how much space is there btwn thw tray bottom and the bottom of the mesh bottom and what non-vent dome will fit?** A: It rests flat, but the channels in the1020 tray allow room for water to collect. There's lots of domes out there, so I can't tell you for sure which ones exactly fit. No more! This is my second order of this type tray. Also have the 1020 no holes, 50 cube seed starters with tall covers and shallow 1020 with holes, all of which are excellent. They are thick enough, even full of seedlings, to be picked up at the end with one hand and not worry about cracking. Am hardening off about 400 plants now and quality products like these make it so much easier and faster to move trays in and out of the greenhouse. The cost may be more up front but I think within 2 years the cost will average out with the cheaply made type that have to be replaced every year.
