The taste and texture are good--it's very simple, just rice in a creamy base it absorbs, but would be easy to dress up. I used it under sauteed vegies and with fresh herbs on top. I bought this to try out and then take on a backpacking trip and as something handy to keep in the pantry. BUT-- I feel a bit conned by the Prime Day deal. Sure, I saved a few dollars--but the packages have a "best used by" date of only a month from now. I feel as if the sale was being used to unload stock that was about to expire. No one uses that many boxes of something like rice all at once. If the expiration date had been further out, I'd give four stars for taste/texture. Glad to find it here! It's a quick and easy side dish or meal. The four cheese is delicious, but I usually add extra cheese and cream for more flavor. If you love risotto but hate the effort, this is idiot-proof! Throw it in a pot and it practically cooks itself. The taste and smell is strong and could be an acquired taste as initially I was not sure I enjoyed it. After a while I grew to love it, however, my husband dislikes the taste and how it makes our house smell.
