Review: Great all around mic and fantastic alternative to the SM57 - Four years ago, I needed some dynamic mics for live music recording. With its $100 price tag, the SM57 wasn't an option for me, so I bought a few of these instead. I couldn't be happier with my decision. Honestly, these seem pretty much on par with 57's to me. I've used them on drums, amps etc. and they've performed flawlessly every time giving me a clear sonic reproduction of my subject. A couple of the recordings I've used them on have even been released on indie labels with a third currently in the works. Forget the brand name and buy these mics. You won't regret it.
Review: You get what you pay for - I bought three of these to use as drum mics in my studio. Let me be clear: This is not equal to an SM57 or 58. It is COMPARABLE to an SM57 in response, but lacks the mid-highs to go head-to-head against the 58. THE GOOD: They are great for the price! Fairly responsive, supercardoid dynamic directional mics at a very reasonable price. They don't squeal, you don't have to blow out the gain, and the signal is consistent. Solid die-cast body with decent soldering on the electronics. THE BAD: You will spend a lot of time turning knobs to get the muddiness out. The mids kind of wash with no pre-fader EQ on them. They are VERY sensitive to positioning and I am not sure why. A directional mic should be a directional mic, right? Overall, if you are looking for some entry level studio mics that won't break the bank, the DRI100 is a worthwhile endeavor. If you don't need them NOW, save your money and get some 57s.

Four years ago, I needed some dynamic mics for live music recording. With its $100 price tag, the SM57 wasn't an option for me, so I bought a few of these instead. I couldn't be happier with my decision. Honestly, these seem pretty much on par with 57's to me. I have a stereo guitar setup, and y second mic was a crappy share encore or something like that, one with an off and on button... anyways... one channel sounded crisp and clean and the other one muddy and opaque but atlas it kept the stereo profile , I would eq it until acceptable... I was going to buy the new RODE M1 or an M57 and I saw this in Guitar Center, looked like the kind of stuff a company makes to resemble a well known product... i thought it would be crap, ten I googled it and the lowest rating I saw was 4 and a half stars... so I thought I can't go wrong with this 20 dlls mic. and man I was BLOWN away by how my recordings sound now... ten times better!!! crisp, has a good analog feel to it and just has that mojo that makes things sound amazing... I would definitely not hesitate to get this mic at this price... you will not be sorry!!!
