The flipper opens the blade smoothly, though it does take two motions with the first flip only opening the knife to the half way point. It's very smooth, but the blade is so light and the tab so small that even pressing the tab fast and hard only opens it half way, and then you can pull / flick down on the back of the blade and it opens the rest of the way. The blades that come with it are nice and sharp, though you can get any other #24 blades you prefer. I have the kk01 and I think it fits in my hand a bit nicer than this kk02 since it's a bit longer, but overall I prefer how much easier it is to open this kk02 with one hand using the flipper tab.
