If you're looking for an entry-level telescope that does it all, you've come to the right place. This incredibly balanced telescope is ideal both for space viewing and daytime observing. With a large 70mm aperture, this telescope has a third more light gathering power than most smaller scopes. The fully coated achromatic 70mm primary objective lens is maintenance free and ready to use right out of the box. The 700mm focal length, combined with 3 include eyepieces and a 2x barlow lens, means you'll enjoy a range of magnifications from 35x to 350x. This package comes with a high-quality film solar filter that fits over the end of your telescope. Observe the sun from behind the protection of this .002" filter, which blocks 99.999% of sunlight and has a ND5 rating. You can also use it to capture great photos through your telescope. Of course this special filter isn't just for observing the eclipse. Use it to check out solar flares, sunspots, aculae, and solar granulation, as well. This simple accessory easily transforms this 70mm refractor into a solar scope, just slip it over the end of the tube and secure in place with the thumbscrew. The patented design of the iOptron SmartStar-E Alt-Azimuth Mount, a.k.a. The Cube, is probably the most functional and flexible unit on the market. Both axis motors are built into a small single unit. In addition, there are no "dead spots" -- so you can point your telescope anywhere above the horizon, whereas other mounts block the telescope tube at certain points of rotation. This mount also comes standard with AC connection. An optional DC adapter is available so you can plug your telescope motor into your car if you're camping or at any remote location. The mount also accepts 8 AA cell batteries for use at home or in the field (batteries sold separately).
