At that point there are two tunnels and two sets of people being pursued. Salvatore took one branch and the results of that choice are detailed in book 6, Beyond The Darkness. Tane took the other branch and his adventures are covered in this book. That said... this has all the marks of a 'bridging' [one which sets up for future stories] book. It seemed to have less action than normal but the relationship plot was well developed.Tane is a great character - mohawk, shorts and bare feet in all weather and conditions - and his job as Charon [basically vampire assassin in charge of killing off rogue vampires] makes him REALLY unpopular with his fellow vampires. And when he captures that half-Jinn he should deliver her to the Oracles immediately. But there's something about her...Then there's Laylah - under an order of execution for being a half-Jinn - bearing the darkest of secrets - the last thing she wants to see is a vampire assassin nipping at her heels. But it's not like she has a choice, he's there, he's not giving up, and he's sure acting like he wants to nip more than her heels...And finally there's Levet - adding his own special mix of 'rescuing fair damsels' and 'confusion to the enemies' while driving the hero nuts.Victor and Juliet, two supporting characters they visit in London, have their own story - Taken by Darkness in the Yours For Eternity anthology.Series is pretty sequential, better to read them in order. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Definitely Delivered *by S***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 2, 2010* I couldn't wait for this book to be released, and I have to say it definitely over delivered. In some of the other books the vamps quickly accept the mating even after centuries of solitude. Tane's reluctance came off more believable. As usual Ms. Ivy delivers very compelling characters with individual voices and unique journeys. I think the author is making an effort to make the internal dialogue more snappy with the more pop culture references which was an amusing touch in addition to Levet continuing to be a thorn in the vamp's collective sides. Usually in romances I skip the chapters which deal only with the internal strife on the side of the bad guys. My own personal $0.02 is if the hero/heroine don't get that view, I shouldn't have it either. (I skip whole chapters in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series). But I learned my lesson with Book 6 "Beyond the Darkness" Beyond the Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, Book 6)  when I had to go back and reread in order to catch up with what was happening with Caine...who is a bad guy? bad guy turned good guy? Well, we still can't really tell by the end of Book 7. There were a lot of characters to keep track of in this one between the new vamps, new bad guys, new types of demons, old vamps who are reintroduced (if you're a fan of the series, you'll want to make sure to read Ms. Ivy's short story in the "Yours for Eternity" collection  Yours For Eternity ). Of course I devoured this book (ok the pun was intended) in one day, so maybe it was just me.I purchased the Kindle version (a bargain by the way!) and the paragraph returns were all messed up. A lot of the dialogue came in continuous streams vs. being broken up with carriage returns. So that was a little distracting, but was a fault of the format not the plot or the author. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Never a Let Down... *by T***Y on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 31, 2011* After reading many of the other reviews I have to say that I will continue to be a FAN of this series!Ms. Ivy has never let me down! I have read many authors within this genre and more times than not by this point in the series I typically feel a huge distance from the main heroes and heroines and miss them within the series. I won't give plot spoilers, and character analysis--other reviewers have already done so. Instead, I have to say that the overall PLOT keeps getting better and better! And through it all the main characters from each book resurface to give each other their ongoing support in the supernatural war against the ultimate Darkness. I love the return of so many of my favorite people throughout this book. Not to mention, who wouldn't love our favorite Gargoyle?! Levet gives the reader the best comic relief ever written into PR existence. He can be my Knight in Shining Armor anyday!The love story between Laylah and Thane continues the underlying theme that love conquers across all dividing lines--Vampires,Goddesses, Shalotts, Werewolves, Genetically altered Werewolves, and Jinns!
