I did preform a simple test, that leads me to believe this. I used an old school AM radio and tuned it to a frequency where there are no radio stations Broadcasting. Then I held it close to the Makita screw driver and energized it. I could hear static noise on the radio that was correlated to the screw driver operation. I know from electrical radio theory, that a sparking connection (electric current flowing though the brush to commutator gap) generates a broad band spectrum of RF energy that a AM radio can pick up. I repeated this test with a battery powered drill where I can see it has brushes and got the same results. I hope this helps. I'm personally pleased with the performance of the Makita screw driver. The torque clutch setting is electronic. When the clutch hits the setting limit, the motor stops instantly.
