The author is an expert on the subject and present and easy, yet very practical, and full of sense way of studying the score. If you have a score that you want to study you don't want to spend weeks of months readying a book about how to study a score. What you need is a brief, yet complete, description of the process. This book achieves that. I read it in three days and when I sat down to study a band score I made great use of my time. The book is filled with practical and musical advice.The reason why I do not give this book 5 stars is because the scores are very hard (almost impossible) to read because the font is very small. There is a score towards the end of the book with annotations, I could not read any of the notes: I tried on my two different kindles (paperwhite and fire) and on my laptop using the kindle app to no success. Editors should take this into consideration! Bottom line, this is not going to stop you from learning what you need to learn from this book, but it would have made the kindle edition much better. If you want to be able to read every single annotation (which makes sense) you might want to go with the paper edition.Overall I highly recommend the book. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ this is a great process to imitate *by C***N on Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2017* This book basically taught me how to score study. It's succinct, to the point, and although Battisti is clearly a mad genius who would spend 100 hours on a 5 minute score, this is a great process to imitate. I don't know what I would've done in grad school without this resource. It was THE most important read in those 2 years for me. You can totally read the entire thing in about 2 hours too. I used it constantly as a reference thereafter, and I still do from time to time now as a professional High School Band Director. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A recommended buy *by M***O on Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2019* A very concise and straight to the point book that teaches how to study scores. Excellent for beginning conductors with very helpful examples. Analysis of score has also all been done and laid out very clearly. Authors also dwell into what a conductor should be thinking about, which is rare in most books.
