I decided this Oneida unit might outperform it because most fine dust and about 50% of total dust I generated got through to the second stage bag on my old system. You can see my new setup in the first photo and the garbage-can lid that's now out of a job in the second photo. With the new system, only a small fraction of dust makes it through to the Grizzly bag of the second stage (maybe 10%) and much of the fine dust stays in the Oneida cardboard drum you can see. Mine was intact, installed easily (on top of a 30-gallon fiber drum from Grainger) and has been performing like a champ ever since. Does a much, much better job (with the same Rockler wall-mounted dust collector) as my previous "homemade" setup using a plastic drum and a pair of input/output hose connectors that sort of create a centrifugal cyclone effect. **Q: do these improve suction or flow?? i have a harbor freight collection system, flow has seemed to greatly be reduced. no clogs anywhere i see** A: I also have a Harbor Freight dust collector and I replaced the dust bag/filter on it with a canister filter. I recently added the Super Dust Deputy 4/5 cyclone to replace an old, less effective separator. I noticed that the suction nearly doubled - it is definitely a much more efficient design than what I had. I am using 4" hoses in my shop. I recommend the following: 1) Check that your hoses are attached to the correct fittings on the cyclone (Top opening goes to the Harbor Freight unit, side opening goes to you tools. (Note: I had to use a bungee cord to support the hose from the Harbor Freight unit because the hose's weight caused the top fitting on the cyclone to loosen.) 2) Make sure ALL joints are COMPLETELY sealed. Use X-Treme Tape® Duct Hose Wrap. It stretches and sticks to itself without adhesive. Rockler and Woodcraft as well as other stores sell it. Hope this helps. **Q: Does this collect fine dust? The rockler one does not seem to.** A: No cyclone separator is 100% efficient. This one is about 99% which means that 1% (mostly fine) will make its way to the vacuum filter. In my real life I am an air handling specialist, so this is just fact. Any cyclone you buy will never be 100% efficient, but this one is pretty good. **Q: Can you out a bag in the bin that the cyclone attaches to? To make emptying easier?** A: You could, but it would be necessary to be sure the seal at the top is complete and open the bag as far as possible. The sawdust falls into the bin, it is not blown into the bin.
