## Description

Chattanooga Hydrocollator Packs - Half 5 x 12

Review: Works well. Durable. Maintains heat for 30 min. Moist heat is not recommended for longer than 30 min intervals. Well made.
Review: I've tried all kinds of heating pad products, but always go back to the basic hydrocollator. The "hot water" method provides moist heat, which is way better than dry heat. More effort to use, but well worth it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: When you heat the steam pack in water, does it saturate the pack or is there a protective cover on and just the inside material heated.**
A: It does saturate the pack and it becomes very hot. There are tabs to help you lift it out of the water but we still use tongs to lift it out. We put it on a folded beach towel and wrap it up. Put on the area and let the heat seep in. you may have to add a layer of towel or take off a layer to get the right temperature. It really works miracles on muscle back pain. We bought a large pot at Goodwill to boil the hydrocollator in.

**Q: I Look and looked for directions. What are the correct directions? Could not find the part about water --nearly burned the cloth in the microwave!**
A: Sorry you had a problem using your hydrocullator. I've been using the neck version since about 1985 on most days for stiffness, tension, pain or headaches. What I do is just store it submerged in water in a covered dutch-oven-type pot and leave it sitting on the stove. I use it most mornings and I just turn on the burner until it boils--in about 7 min or so. Then I lift it out of the hot water with a table knife in the loop and wrap it in a folded bath towel making about (4) thicknesses that cover both sides of the hydrocullator. Then I place it around my neck, shifting it over my shoulders when it gets too hot on my skin (doing this multiple times until it's too cool or my time has run out). When I replace it to the pot, I replenish the water level to completely submerge it.
I used to store the cooled one in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. This takes longer to heat on the stove and sometimes can suffer mold. Stove-top is storage best.
The directions I received with this latest one said for microwaving, submerge the whole hydrocullator in water in a microwave-proof container and heat until boiling (?) -- that's really no faster than the stove-top method. But water is a must!
I have burned up about (3) of these with water boiling away completely. If parts burn up, I just cut away the fabric from one side of that one cell, rinse out all the clay there and kept using the rest of it as usual. I like the neck size model because it can easily be used on other parts of the body as well.
Hope this is helpful. Enjoy your hydrocullator!

**Q: How long the pad is?, what fabric is made of?, is this pad ''moist heat''?, is this pad heavy?i need it for reflex sympathetic dystrophy home therapy**
A: The Chattanooga Hydrocollator HotPac, Neck Contour is 24" (61cm) long. This HotPac is an all natural product and is used for moist heat therapy for pain relief.

**Q: I am interested in getting this, but I can't find a cover. It is of no use if I can't put it in something. Is there somewhere to get a cover?**
A: I work at an outpatient physical therapy clinic that thanks to some regulation won't allow us to use the terry covers anymore. We just use several layers of dry towels (I usually use 3-4 towels folded in half on bottom & 2 in half on top) Works great & if it starts getting too hot just add another layer.

So I am a retired Chiropractor and have used hydrocollator packs in my practice for decades. I bought this for my GF to treat her ankle. I was surprised to see how little product was in the pack. The sand retains the heat and there was so little that it cooled in a couple of minutes and is useless as a therapeutic product. Chattanooga was always the best brand but if you look at the other brands, you can see how thick they look compared to the Chattanoogas. I would try the other brands.
