Instead of having 4 USB drives sitting on the shelf I now have this one box connected via USB-C to a mini-PC with no internal storage beyond an NVMe SSD. It's very quick and works perfectly well but does NOT support hardware RAID. One could make a software RAID using Windows 10/11 Professional, note that the specs state this enclosure does not work with Linux. I have not tested it with Linux. The sync button is interesting. With sync turned on the enclosure powers up and down with the computer to which it is attached but will not recover from a power failure, that requires a human intervention to push the power button on the front. I cannot really fault this enclosure, for the price it is a great deal. Review: Works as Advertised - Been using this guy for about a year now. It's solid and supports all the stuff they say it does. I'm using a dell desktop for server with Debian, getting 10Gb transfer speeds. ZFS is rock solid, zero errors ever. Only thing I wish for is it auto powered on after power loss. Cooling is not very good. I bought a $10 external fan and keep the door open all the time. The noise of the fan at high speed is awful so I put it on level 2 (of 3) in this configuration. Just fine for my closet home server on a budget. It's also a bit rickety without making me nervous, just strong enough I guess. It's not all metal like some. But it has it where it counts as Han Solo has said. ## Features - Support all brand of 3.5” SATA I / II / III hard disk drive up to 12TB per drive, and up to 4 x 12TB - Transfer rate up to 10Gbps via USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C (USB-C Cable included) - Support SATA 3 6.0Gbps hard drive transfer rate - Support S.M.A.R.T / Power Sync Features - Support UASP, Smart Fan with built-in thermal sensor ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B078YQHWYW | | Best Sellers Rank | #99,487 in Computers ( See Top 100 in Computers ) #463 in Enclosures | | Brand | Mediasonic | | Built-In Media | Main Unit + Accessory | | Compatible Devices | Personal Computer | | Connectivity Technology | USB Type C | | Customer Reviews | 3.9 out of 5 stars 468 Reviews | | Data Transfer Rate | 10 Gigabits Per Second | | Enclosure Material | Metal | | Hard Disk Form Factor | 3.5 Inches | | Hardware Interface | USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB Type C | | Hardware Platform | Mac | | Hardware interface | USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB Type C | | Hardware platform | Mac | | Item Dimensions L x W x H | 17.3L x 12.4W x 22.9H centimeters | | Item Weight | 1.81 kg | | Item weight | 1.81 kg | | Manufacturer | Mediasonic | | Material | Metal | | Memory Storage Capacity | 30 TB | | Mfr Part Number | HF7-SU31C | | Model Number | HF7-SU31C | | Number of Items | 1 | | Number of Packs | 1 | | Product dimensions | 17.3L x 12.4W x 22.9H centimeters | | Supported Devices Quantity | 4 | | UPC | 629329001965 | | Unit Count | 4.0 Count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Mediasonic - **Hardware interface:** USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB Type C - **Hardware platform:** Mac - **Material:** Metal - **Product dimensions:** 17.3L x 12.4W x 22.9H centimeters ## Images ![Mediasonic USB 3.1 4 Bay 3.5” SATA Hard Drive Enclosure – USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps Type C / USB-C (HF7-SU31C) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51k0pLkCUPL.jpg) ![Mediasonic USB 3.1 4 Bay 3.5” SATA Hard Drive Enclosure – USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps Type C / USB-C (HF7-SU31C) - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/5133HJLEOhL.jpg) ![Mediasonic USB 3.1 4 Bay 3.5” SATA Hard Drive Enclosure – USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps Type C / USB-C (HF7-SU31C) - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71p-0Qm4T+L.jpg) ![Mediasonic USB 3.1 4 Bay 3.5” SATA Hard Drive Enclosure – USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps Type C / USB-C (HF7-SU31C) - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71OgQ9BfZVL.jpg) ![Mediasonic USB 3.1 4 Bay 3.5” SATA Hard Drive Enclosure – USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps Type C / USB-C (HF7-SU31C) - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51bdalFtmsL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Model** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: Amazon has 2 boxes from this manufacturer. The HFR2-SU3S2 ProRaid ,, and the HFR2-SU3S2 drive enclosure. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?** A: There are two versions of the HFR2-SU3S2: ProRaid and ProBox. The former supports RAID in hardware while the latter does not. The ProRaid supports pretty much every form of RAID I can think of, including 0 (two types), 1, 3, 5, and 10. However, the throughput in RAID mode is 3 Gbps while non-RAID can run as fast as (if your disks can keep up) 6 Gbps. Some people prefer to have their operating system implement RAID, some prefer hardware RAID. With the HFR2-SU3S2, you can buy the product that meets your needs. **Q: Anyone has tested this unit with 6 TB hard drives?** A: I'm running 4 X 8TB drives with no problems. **Q: Can this device be hooked up directly to a Router instead of a PC?** A: No This is not a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device, unless your router has a USB Port for external storage this will not work. **Q: What are the differences between the hf2-su31c and hf7-su31c models ? and is there proraid version of this ? (one that supports raid).** A: Hi, The only difference is the design of the exterior case. The main board and chipset are the same. This is NOT a raid version. The Raid version will be available in two month. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Inexpensive solution for decluttering many USB drives *by L***O on 19 March 2024* I got this to declutter the shelf where my home media server lives.
