Is it good for that?** A: I believe this mic is geared more to the direct signal of an electric guitar amp speaker. It could be used for piano, but you may want to check into other Neumann or AKG models, and consider two mics also. **Q: Plan on recording with a band soon in a less than ideal space, will this be better at preventing bleeding sound from the drums than a 57?** A: Yes, it picks up less sound from the sides than a 57 because its super cardioid pattern and the design of the mic head you can get it really close up on the speaker, so you should get less bleed from other sounds in the room. I have hung one of these over my guitar cabinet for years (decades?) with excellent results. I try to place it just past the edge of the dust cap, but it is not picky about placement like the venerable SM57. It just works.
