Storm-proof and strike anywhere matches? Steel and flint? Several other ferro rods? Yes, yes I do. Do I regularly use any of them? Not really. Have several fire kits though! That being said, this particular rod throws GREAT sparks. Don't lie to yourself. It feels pretty cool when you can start a fire without a lighter or matches, especially in front of someone else. If my kids or their friends or my no-so-outdoorsy friends are around, I break out one of these to get things to get a fire started. Are they kinda impressed? Certainly. Should they be? Absolutely. Why? Because I made magic sparks fly from a metal stick. This would get you burned at the stake a few hundred years ago. Super thick and sturdy, long enough for a good grip.
