It's made of aluminum metal and is sturdy, versatile, reliable and easy to use. It has not spring! (I got my fingers pinched and scratched before with other selfie sticks and mounts that had a spring.) The knob underneath can be turned to widen the bracket. A phone is placed in the brackets and once adjusted - the knob can be tightened to the desired width/position. After that the user will only need to use the top knob to expand and tighten as needed.
