No chemicals. I wear light makeup - eyeliner, waterproof mascara, cc cream, and some lip color. All I need is water and this cloth remove all of it. I do use a laundry pre-treatment on them before putting them in the wash, otherwise the mascara can stain them. I've had my set for two years now.
