The cage holes are too small for small woodpeckers, and the entire feeder is too small for large woodpeckers to hang on to. If you are getting this to feed woodpeckers, choose something else. ### ⭐⭐ Birds Can't Figure It Out *by C***T on Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2015* The feeder is attractive and well made - that is not the reason for only 2 stars. I have had this hanging in my yard for over two weeks and the suet cake is untouched. I have seen sparrows looking at it but they can't seem to figure out how to get at the food. I have put some crackers and pieces of suet cake in it near the the outside and those are gone but they do not enter the feeder.I have a standard square suet cake holder nearby which they love but so do the starlings who gobble up the cake quickly. I bought this to keep out the starlings. I even left the square holder empty thinking that hunger would get them to use their brains and figure out the new feeder but they didn't and I felt bad after a day and put a cake back in the old feeder.I will just leave it hanging with fingers crossed and will update my review if the sparrows finally start using this. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's a great feeder -- I've never managed *by B***. on Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2014* It's a great feeder -- I've never managed, before this, to put out suet in a way that only birds would have access to it. This feeder does it. But it's important for new users to know that birds don't necessarily know how to use it when they first encounter it. We put the suet cakes on the outside of the container for the first week. The birds started eating them (as did the squirrels). We then moved the suet to its intended place and the birds followed! They love it!
