Even though there have been upgrades to FCPX, they are mostly bug fixes and minor improvements overall so I would say it's still a valuable book if you're trying to get acquainted with the new paradigm of Final Cut Pro X. Here's the thing - even though it's been a few years since the redesign, a lot of FCP7 users are just now finally coming to grips that they will have to make the switch. Hanging on to the old version (which is still better in my opinion, as of this writing) will not keep you current. Younger editors are coming into the workforce using FCPX, Premiere, etc. and they will do their work faster than "old timers" because those programs utilize the 64-bit architecture. The new plugins and effects that look modern and cool are all being made for the new programs so you can't take advantage of the current video styles unless you make the switch to a 64-bit program. I suggest reading this book cover to cover one time if you're getting ready to switch from FCP7 to FCPX or if you are totally new to video editing. There's A LOT of information to learn and you can't grasp it all at once. Just let the ideas wash over you and get used to the concepts. In all fairness, the book was evidently delayed as Apple put out new versions of FCPX, so that all the updates could be addressed in print; however, in the last six months of pulling my hair out I have either figured most of this book's information out on my own or used tutorial videos on various sites.
