The reason for this is that the Attic Dek product is annoyingly designed with raised edges on the bottom (we don't know why they did that!) which means that unless your floor joist is 1.5" wide, the Attic Dek products don't meet in the middle of the joist, as the raised edges prevent you from pushing the parts close together. It's still safe, but there are gaps between the boards, over the joists. It's weird that they did this, since many people have wooden joists that are more than 1.5" wide. In our case, you screw your boards on to the Cross-Beams, which we made 3" wide, to make it stronger and easier to fit. But that is wider than 1.5" so it means that there will be a gap between each Attic Dek section when it rests on the Cross-Beam. Again, it's still strong and safe, but it's worth knowing about the gap. We guess you could place the Attic Dek parts upside down, with the raised edges facing up, but then you won't have a flat deck. We've never tried that. Most of our customers use boards like 19/32 in. x 24 in. x 4 ft. OSB Attic Decking Board, which you can get from stores like Home Depot. Or, for a stronger board and better look, try plywood. I hope this helps, do let us know if you have any other questions. **Q: Looking to go 8 feet or 12 feet parallel to the joist and 16 feet or longer perpendicular. Are the legs modular? Can they be reconfigured?** A: Legs are individual units that fit under and support an aluminum top track. Legs are fastened parallel to the top of ceiling joists and alumiinum track fits on top of legs, perpendicular to joists. Some legs are single to provide intermedial support. I found it best to fit the plywood top cover parallel to and within the joists. Depending on roof supports, had to modify some aluminum tracks and use the single legs fastended to a joist for support or made a 2 x 4 leg attached (nailed) to joist and notched to fit aluminum top track. Used "Attic Trac" above to provide even greater storage access. **Q: Can the system be configured into a wider rectangle rather than a square?** A: You can configure it in a rectangle, square, L-shape... any way that you can arrange a bunch of 2x4 foot plywood sheets. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars very cool stuff *by J***E on Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2016* This stuff was pretty awesome and easy to install. My attic is all crazy uneven due to different levels of ceiling and the layout of the AC stuff. No way I could most of it or even half, but I did do 3 different areas in my attic just for storage of containers. 1 somewhat big area and 2 smaller ones. Much quicker then trying to build up your own and the support is good. I just had new insulation sprayed in my attic and didnt want to mess it up. this was by far the best solution and you will mess up your insulation a little just doing the install. You can walk on it, im a fat 220 right now. I wouldnt jump or have more then one person though. I actually end up with some extras left over, but that's because I decided it would be difficult to cover a larger area because oh my uneven ceilings and I was happy with what I was able to do quickly. I would order more then what you think you need though. The kit does not include the wooden decking as shown. It only has bracing materials (plastic and metal) and no indecation of wood dcking being supplied, but it is not until you recieve the pricey kit that it is made known , after you open the boxes.
