It was still working like new when I moved years ago and never saw them again. The box says they heat quickly (like 90 seconds) which isn’t remotely accurate but they heat ok in 5 minutes. If they get really hit you can’t hold them but I set my iphone alarm and they work as expected. The pins work fine. I tried different rollers years ago and these worked as well or better than the more expensive units. I assume there have been no real issues with this Remington product or it wouldn’t be on the market for decades and…it curls well. It would bee nice to have an auto shutoff however items that have this don’t seem to last as long so modern phone alarms do the job. These were a no brainer for me at the current price. I’m sure I paid quite a bit more for my first set. If you need these for travel they are the best. They are light weight, take up little space in my carryon and they have a soft cover rather than the hard plastic ones that easily break. Some tech just doesn’t need big updates. When this set came in I used it before eating out and received lots of compliments on my hair. It smooths out the hair which is nice in humid climates. I go between Vermont and NYC — crazy humid. Bring plenty of these curler sets in for them to use (no need to plug them in or heat them up - that part works fine). Now, have them curl their hair in them, if you can get 5 woman who can keep all these in their hair with the provided fasteners for 5 minutes I'll adjust this review again. Here's the great part, if my experience is a sample,they won't just fall out or not hold -they will FLY out. Pins will jettison themselves across the room and under pieces of furniture, curlers will go rolling across the floor, and as they pick people scramble for pins and curlers, the rest of them will do the same. I call it the "Chase a curler game") I know every trick in the book for keeping these type of fasteners in - and these are just too small for the curlers. I have never used them. How do you heat them up? Are they easy to use? Will they work on fine hair? Is one set enough?** A: This answer will be attributed to my husband because I'm answering on his Amazon account, but I am a woman with just-below shoulder-length hair. I bought this kit yesterday at Walmart and have yet to see how the actual ceramic rollers work as the "pins" they provide to hold the rollers in place DO NOT HOLD THE ROLLERS IN PLACE, and any woman who has ever curled her hair will see this right out of the box. If you have never used curlers, you will fuss and fiddle with these pins and think that you're doing something wrong---you aren't. It's the poor quality pins provided in this kit. They do not "fit" the rollers (the instructions tell you to place them "crosswise" over the roller but they aren't long enough for that). You can get a somewhat diagonal direction going, but by then you've pushed most the hair off the curler and possibly popped the pin off the roller too. I lost most the hair off the roller every time I tried to slide these awful pins on. It is obvious that no one actually TRIED these things out before Remington started selling them to the unsuspecting masses. The pins also allow the rollers to slid off your head, or to slide down onto your neck---a hot ceramic roller on the back of your neck doesn't feel too good. Of course, as I said, I saw that this was going to pretty much happen after opening the box, but thought, having rolled my hair for decades now, that I could work through it. Nope. I finally gave up. I hear you can buy spring-loaded plastic clips (the ones that look like a set sharp teeth--uppers and lowers--opening and closing) from Conair or one of those brands, but I haven't gone out and looked for those yet. $15.00 for a set of 10 ceramic rollers from Remington, and then $9.00 more, at least, for clips from another company that supposedly work. We'll see. I wanted these because blow-drying my hair is causing a lot of frizz and broken ends and I know other women who love ceramic rollers. **Q: If the rollers get hot are they impossible to handle? Burnt fingers?** A: Hi there! I have not burned my fingers because I have used the rollers by holding the ends, however i have had the rollers too close to my neck and felt the heat. I was reluctant for years to try hot rollers because I was figured they'd be a waste of money. Curling irons never get a curl into my hair, ever. Even when I go to a pro, they struggle to get a curl into my hair. After seeing so many people recommend hot rollers especially for hair that's like mine, I decided to take a chance with hot rollers and decided to try this set since it's smaller and not as pricey as others on the market. From the picture and description, I thought that I'd need two sets to work all my hair into the rollers and I can actually get away with one set if I want looser curls. This look is good for everyday. I might need the second set for more tight curls. For reference, my hair is layered and the longest layer reaches the small of my back. I have lots of fine hair, as well. Like I said, I never had much success with anything else that's supposed to curl your hair but, with these, not only are they fast and easy, they curl my hair without an issue. HEAT: They heat up at a decent rate. I think they reach optimum temp. in about 3 minutes, unlike the description states. This isn't an issue for me but, if you were looking for something that heats up much quicker than that, these might be a disappointment to you. They hold their heat well while they are in your hair. Also, I don't have an issue where some curlers heat up and others don't like other people stated in their reviews but, to be safe, I always make sure that they are pushed all the way into the heating device while heating up. CLIPS: They come with their own clips. They are the metal kind and I've heard that these kind are the best since they don't leave marks or creases in your hair. I also, unlike other reviewers, didn't have an issue with these clips and their holdability. They stay put and don't flop around. I think that if you're having this issue, you might be putting too much hair around one roller. I can't be certain of that but, that's what I suspect. SIZE: These are definitely a portable set and if you plan to use these as a travel set, they are extremely compact. I like that they are compact because, unlike other sets, they don't have bulky cases that would take up far too much space in my bathroom. Even with my two sets, I feel like they're the perfect size and don't take up much space at all.
