The holding power may be 150lbs, but that rating is based on attempting to pull the magnet off at a 90' angle relative to the attached surface. Obviously, this rating is not useable, unless you are using it to pickup and drop metals (think electromagnet in a dump yard). The useable force in most situations is the shear force. I haven't measured the shear force on my mags yet, but I would be surprised if it exceeded 50lbs. Note: all magnet hold forces are dependent on the thickness of the metal, up to saturation point. This means that the mag holds stronger on thicker metal. When manufacturers rate the pull forces they use at least 3/8" metal and most users aren't using 3/8" + thick metal, so the force ratings are seldom observed by the average user. **Q: is the yellow portion metal ?** A: Yes it is metal. The wings also have small holes so it can be screwed to the jig. **Q: Are these waterproof?** A: Yes and No. They are not electronic in nature so they will continue to work even under water. However they are a mechanical device made primarily from steel so if allowed to remain moist for extended periods of time they would rust. **Q: Does this lose its magnetic hold force over time? What is the expected working life of the magnet?** A: Rare-earth magnets are permanent magnet in that loose all their force when heated above their Curie temp which is above 300C. They also have a working tem where they begin to permanently loose force is is around 80C. They will lose a very small fraction of force over time(>10 years). I just want both halves that I paid for. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review *by D***. on 15 June 2025* I love the holding power of these things. I used a couple of these in a fence for my drill press and band saw. The wood I used was just slightly thicker than 3/4 which these are meant for. They didn't hold so well until I realized they were not touching the surface. I routed the top where they mount so the wood was a perfect 3/4 and then they were very powerful which touching the surface of the iron table. My only complaint is that Amazon doesn't force the sellers to list where the products are made.
