This I setup as a ZWave server, and connected my Z-Wave device to this. Then I installed the Z-Wave JS integration in to Home Assistant and set that up. This way, home assistant is seperate from the Z-Wave network. I don't have dedicated hardware for home assistant, but I do for the z-wave network. Everything hooked up nicely and it's working great.
