Solid Performer...with Limitations
I primarily use the Railbalaza MiniPort on kayaks and a micro skiff (Gheenoe Classic) to secure items like my paddle, stake out pole and push pole. The great thing about the MiniPort is it's small profile and the fact it requires a fraction of the space (vs. StarPort HD) on an accessory rail.In case you were wondering, the StarPort HD takes up a full 5" on a rail, where the MiniPort only needs a measly 1.5" to do its job. While the StarPort HD base itself is only 4" in length, those goofy wing nuts occupy an additional 1" underneath...preventing anything else from being mounted against the base and effectively making it a 5" base. While there's no denying the StarPort HD is incredibly stout compared to the MiniPort, it also has a problem mounting to rails like the YakAttack Mighty Mount XL...which I prefer b/c of it's incredible strength. The StarPort HD requires some fidgeting to get locked into place on the MightyMount and is certainly not quick attach / detach. On the other hand, removing the MiniPort rubber washser makes mounting + sliding far more workable. As others have mentioned, the MiniPort is probably not the best candidate for serving as a rod holder...where the StarPort HD is much more suited for this task. In my opinion, the MiniPort is a light duty base and insufficient for items like a rod holder + rod & reel. In fact, I'm not a huge fan of Railblaza's rod holders, only use Railblaza holders in a limited capacity and instead greatly prefer the Yakattack Omegas for their utility and strength. In addition, the Omega's base only takes up 2" on the rail, has an ingenious lock system and gets the reel up away from salt water splashing onto them. For my needs, I haven't found a better combo for securing, quickly deploying or transporting gear such as a paddle, stake out pole and push pole than the Railblaza MiniPort with 50mm G-Hold. Again, as others have mentioned, you need to double check the lock rings to make sure they are engaged before getting underway. Even then, I use redundant safety measure such as multiple MiniPort + G-Hold combos to make sure my gear doesn't fall out of my kayak or boat while on the water and the highway.

Expensive but exactly what I needed
These work great on my Native Watercraft Rail in my kayak. They hold star mount rod holders very firmly, however, the gray locking tab does not always lock in place without a little finagling. Also, if you unscrew it too far, the square rail head will unscrew completely from the mount. If you loose that, forget it. They should flatten the end after the head is attached so it can't come off. Very good but expensive for what you get. Does what it is supposed to do.

Perfect, durable component to mix and match railblaza kayak components!
I use this with the railblaza pole mount for my gopro kayak setup. Its very high quality and very durable. Im sure you could pay much more for a mount pole but this is the best option that Ive found

Solid Kayak Addition
I have been using this mounting base for a couple of years now for my GoPro pole. It works well and is simple. I dont have to think about it, its just there and works.

Easy to use and sturdy.
I had ordered a couple Railblaza Rod Holders and was impressed with how easy they were to install and reposition as well as how sturdy they are. I have a Perception kayak with rails in various locations so it only seemed logical to put a couple extra MiniPorts on so I could move the Rod Holder around as needed. The MiniPort slides on and tightens securely with a twist. Easy to move, just twist and slide and twist again. They are quick to remove and stash in the kayak when transporting. The MiniPort's low profile and solid seating keeps them from getting in the way or knocked off into the water. Next I will add more rails to the kayaks to take advantage other Railblaza products.
