Rock bands with lady lead singers isn't new, but when they are good, they better be good, like Halestorm. Dorothy has a lovely, bluesy, powerful voice full of attitude and verve, and even though such a voice is intimidating to sing along with, the energy is such that you'll do it anyway and stop judging yourself. The rock influences make Raise Hell a true anthem, the blues influences pull you straight to a smoky nightclub with Shelter, and there's nothing like driving down the freeway to Whiskey Fever (which is as close to drinking and driving as anyone should get ;) ). The only criticism I can think of is that each of the songs needs more substance - at least one more verse, rather than so many repetitions of the chorus.
